I need advice 1986 Flatdeck

2 Attachment(s)
1986 Cigarette Flat Deck
600 Jomar roller motors 60 hours
Trs Drives

Winter of 2012 Im going to Stagger Motors, add bravo drives, get rid of all the trs stuff, I lose H.P. in the transes, Plus I will be able to shoot a rooster. And bravo parts are east to come by.

Cost around 8-10K
What do you think?

The only problem is my boat is turn key 73Mph any day of the week now

Tiki Joe 04-20-2011 03:00 PM

It'll cost over twice that. Plus figure new cockpit because you'll have to move the rear seat forward to make room for a stagger. Which means new engine hatch & upholstery.

Go for it!

Hi l see you have nice reliable set up why would you want to mess with it, 600 hp and the weight and running surface of a flat deck stock up on bravos you will need several during the season, and as far as staggering them for 8-10 k try doubling that and by the time your said and done 1 maybe 2 mph, I love those old flatdecks but they hit a wall in the mid 70's.

You costs will be significantly more and your reliability will be significantly less.

osen007 04-20-2011 04:04 PM

I have all the Bravo stuff already. I just have to redo the transome and have this guy install them. I know the set up I have now gives me no headachs. and at 3200 rpm im crusing mid to upper 40's with gas at 5 a gallon I might be better off keeping it the way I have it.

You dont think I would have enough room deleting the transmissions and moving one motor back and the other forward. I know I might have to do like a stainless marine exhaust and get rid of the big tube headers. I have to mesure it to see. OH ya my boat is still shrink wrapped here in Detroit Michigan and its 44 out side today.

POWERPLAY J 04-20-2011 04:34 PM

Leave it and use it as is. Are you thinking about doing some Wednesday pokerruns with us this year?

I would love to

Ok for get staggered motors how about just changing over to bravos? I blew a TRS last year and it was 5K when it was all said and done.

Magic Medicine 04-20-2011 05:39 PM

Removing the trans will probably change the center of gravity of the boat and could cause the boat to porpoise? I would leave it alone and if you want to upgrade the drives I would go to a speed master 3a setup

Perlmudder 04-20-2011 05:49 PM

what about a konrad conversion?

Back4More 04-20-2011 06:15 PM

I would leave it be unless you have money to spend on Arnesons

kvogt 04-20-2011 06:38 PM

lots of work. You will need to remove the belly tanks and move the back seat bulkheads forward. All of the engine room stringers will need to be modified or moved and a new hatch fabbed. Too much work.... enjoy your boat the way it is.

Sick Stinger 04-20-2011 07:13 PM

Just do a Konrad No need for A8's or bravo conversion, or even Speedys. Plus there are a couple sets in the classys right now for fair coin.

I would just leve it because it will be alot of work also like someone else sad that ur CENTER OF GRAVITY will change if you would like I have a #3 set up for sale much beter than BRAVO

cigrocket 04-21-2011 06:57 AM

Get the Konrads in the swap/classifieds. Then you are able to pump up your Horsepower on your motors and you would still have money left over from changing the boat to Bravo staggered. And it would be more reliable!

Chris 04-21-2011 07:54 AM

you have one of the nicest riding boats, dont mess with it. Get the konrads or 3A's

Harvey 04-21-2011 08:54 AM

Konrads

Buy the Konrads, newer, parts available. Just bolt on.

cigrocket 04-21-2011 09:22 AM

I mentioned the Konrads, but honestly, if you are only pushing 600HP, the TRS if setup correctly should last. I put 90 hours on almost 700 HP without problems. You can usually find some used ones around. The RH drive usually fails becuase of the lower pinion gear, just another route. Should just run the boat and enjoy
