Ignition Problem

Have a pair of 425's in 93 Cafe Racer. Starboard engine recently been playing up when trying to start but would eventually run smoothly but when switched off would not want to start again. Removed Coil, Distributor Cap and Igniition Amplifier and fitted to port engine and they were all ok. Discovered on the stbd engine that with ignition switched "on" had 12 volts at the coil but when turned engine over voltage went to zero. Any ideas what may be causing the voltage loss?

Carlo.

Sounds like a fault in your ignition switch. Try switching sides Port to Starboard and see if the issue follows. OR, which may be easier, erplace both ignitions.

Found the problem

Hi, thanks for your suggestion. Did a test on the ignition sensor and it was completely "dead". Picking up a replacement tomorrow. Genuine merc part about $200 here in the UK!! you guys don't know how lucky you are having merc in your "back yard".
