72 Cigarette 19ft for sale hull#1
for sale
1972 cigarette racing team 19 a true piece of history from thunderboat row on 188th and don aronow and his design team at cigarette racing . power and mechanicals the boat was fully restored in 2004 with originality and reliabilty in mind. the boat is powered by the original motor a chris craft chevy LT1 corvette 350 ci engine mated to a volvo penta aqua matic 270 outdrive. then original color scheme of black and yellow was updated from gel to paint. awlcraft 2000 jet black with awlcraft yellow stripes. the standard teak stripe and wood work was upgraded to marine mahogany with a few coats of varnish. the original chris craft exhaust setup and raw water system were removed and upgraded to stainless marine exhaust with a cross over cooling system. these upgrades gave some performance enhancements with a weight reduction and allowing the motor to breathe better. the original risers are available and will go with the sale of the boat. the wiring and electrical harness was replaced. the motor has new edelbrock aluminum heads increasing the horsepower to about 350hp. the boat will also come with a custom made black tandem bunk trailer made by performance trailers of warrensberg ny. the boat has a 23 solas prop and will run high 50's just to 60 mph. you will not find a better riding 19 foot boat out there. history this is a 2 owner boat which has lived it's entire live on greenwood lake ny. 1972 was the first year for the cig 19, it would later be named the 20. there was no change in length but do to uscg regulations at the time for floatation foam in 19 foot and under, the boat was called a 20 in 1973. the original owner purchased the boat at the 1972 ny boat show which was held in dec of 1971 at the nyc coliseum.i believe this to be cig 19 hull number one. the boat and motor were built in fall of 1971 a year before the uscg made stamping hull identification numbers on the right side of the transom mandatory. during the restoration some unique facts have been uncovered on the boat. when the original front buckets seats handwritten marking cig 19 were found . these were written by the workers at bilt-rite interiors who did all of the interiors for the early donzi and cigs from 188th st. when the heads were replaced it was also noted that certain design features and materials that were used were only made in the 1971 version of that motor. this is a true piece of history that can be used and enjoyed There is nothing this boat needs. It has sat on a lift since its restoration and is immaculate. I have been to a few gatherings and poker runs and feel great when people walk past a 300K boat and walk up to mine to see what it is. This is the one to own if you want a 20 that has been restored to original with some modern day updates. I am asking 30K or best offer. (includes $3500 trailer) Ken |

"Believing" and actually being one thing, without documentation it is sort of a stretch ain't it? No offense inteneded or implied, I am just very interested in actual history of these things AND I do hope it is #1 and has survived, that would be a GOOD THING!!! Oh also as mentioned..... :worthless_without_p Adding pics is easy, upload to photo hosting account (Google. etc) and paste the link in between the image code like so .... OR, send the pics to my email and I will post them for you. |
I don't think they made standardized HIN until 1973. Whatever the HIN is you should be able to verify with cigarette.
|
I'll send some pics over to you tomorrow to post.
thanks Ken |
Looks nice in your avatar!!

Since this only had 2 owners wouldn't the title have the HIN on it that would confirm this is hull #1???

I went out with the original owners daughter and used to drive this boat and took care of it when I was a teen working at the marina it was at in the late 70's. Back then it looked as if the deck was painted by brush and when I dismantled it I noticed some brush touchups. That was from factory like that.....most likely rushed it to get it to the show. The hull ID number on my registration is the serial # that was stamped on the Chris Craft brass plate on the engine. Who knows, back then how Don Aronow put these boats together. He probably did not plan on selling this at the show and had to come up with a hull number. "Hey, lets use this one....done deal". I've heard stories that he would buy engines and parts from people he didn't owe money to just to get them built and out the door. Had to be some great times in N.Miami on 188th st back in those days. There is no other boat like this one. If you are a Don Aronow fan and want an original; this is the boat for you. NEVER been in salt water. |
Very nice job on the restore and good luck with the sale.

Cig19,
FANFREAKINGTASTIC!!! Beautiful Restoration! Been searching for my other piggy bank all day ever since I saw the pics...if I wasn't waist deep in my 24 resto I would be at your front door NOW. BTW, concerning HINs etc, if would be great if the 19/20 owners could start some sort of "Cig 20 Registry" for these great boats. That would go along way towards having data on the earlier (or even first) versions of those. Doubt calling Cigarette with your serial number as mentioned before would help you any. I know I called with my 78 24 HIN and they said they had no records back that far, so doubtful they would have any 72 19/20 info. This is why it will probably be up to the owners themselves to create a registry to keep track of these rare boats and verify the surviving boats. Great Job on saving that one!! Dave |
I LOVE that boat! I wish it were in the finances right now.
Between here and the Donzi Registry, you should get it sold. Best of luck! |
Extremely nice job! Thanks for saving one!!!
|
I dont even know what I'd do with a 19/20' boat, but I too would love to own it! Really nice...
|
Thank you all for the posts!!
I am gonna miss it if it does sell. I know its a lot of money and happy no one has broke my b*lls, but there is not another like it and it needs nothing. Ken |
Very nice. I had a '76 that was very much like this, the same black deck, and sides, with the traditional raised engine hatch, black interior with red, orange and yellow piping that matched the exterior graphics. However, it had a TRS with a 406 I built. Gosh, I miss that boat. I'm still praying for the day I stumble on it again somewhere! Nice job!!

Ken "Phil Lipshutz spent some time with us admiring the boat at the 20 cig run a few years ago . He complemented our work an really loved the old boat" |

Michael....wow. You have quite a memory. Dick Dubrow did say he bought if from Don himself. He lived in Queens and had a summer house in Greenwood Lake, NY. I went out with his daughter Karen in the late 70's and used the boat all the time.
Funny how it came into my posession 20+ years later and is still on Greenwood Lake the past 40 years (20 of them in storage). Do you have any written information on this boat such as a bill of sale or build sheet. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Great hearing from you and your recollection of the Dubrow's. Ken |
I have seen this boat on Lake George and believe me it is beyound beautiful, I walked back to the docks alot just to look at it and drool. It is a work of art.
Oh how I wish I could. |
Just listed on ebay last nite. Was a little surprised how quickly I got a bite:evilb:
This is a real head turner.....its someone else's turn to enjoy this boat. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-...item336d57bb52 |
That's the best one in classic form that I've seen out there. Good luck with the sale, & I hope it goes to a good owner.
