38 Straight Bottom Gun Props

I have a 38 Straight bottom Top Gun. The boat is powered by 525 EFI motors, XR drives and Bravo I, 4 blade 28 Pitch props. I can only reach 4700-4800 RPM's and around 71-72 MPH from the boat, neutral tab and trim. I feel like these motors should be reaching around 5200 RPM and get 2-3 more MPH. However, I know the straight bottom isn't a speedster. Should I run a 26 Pitch prop instead of a 28P? What do you straight bottom guys run for props and drive setup? :drink:

Straight bottom 'Guns like trim and lots of it. WFO, tabs retracted, keep trimming until speed starts to drop. My old 'Gun ran the fastest with the indicators at the end of the scale.

Go down in pitch and get those motors spinning around 5300-5400. And more trim less tabs.

try turning the props inwards. and loose the negative tab, and trim it out until speed falls off.

Also, Call Brett at Bblades about the prop situation. He may be able to work with your 28P props. He will know what you need.

35 Top Gun with Imco -1 shorties running labbed 30's. I went from turning props out to in and the bow carries much better with less trim needed. You still might be over estimating what you're going to get out the 525's. I'd drop down in pitch... labbed 26's sounds about right.

I think you are getting some great answers here. I would call Brett as stated, labbed props and lots of trim and you will get a lot out of it. Check this out to set expectations http://go-fast.com/boat_speed_predictions.htm

Thanks for the responses! I understand I'm not going to get much more from the boat but think I should get more RPM and 2-3 MPH. I'll call Bblades and discuss a bit. I agree with labbed 26P helping out, didn't think about turning props in to help out either. Again, thanks or the helpful responses.
