Fastest Straight Bottom
anyone putting up any big numbers with a straight bottom 38? what kind of power?
|
Not big #'s by any means, but a straight bottom 38' with twin 525 EFI's & XR drives, 4 blade 28P props I get low 70's on GPS at ~4800 RPM. I "believe" if I drop pitch to 26 I'll get to 74-75 with another 300 RPM's. I'm going to work on it this spring....a straight bottom needs big HP to compete with the T/S guns. Still a great boat we are happy with.

Running into the 90s in the 1980s..My dad spent a lot of time in this boat, Still my all time favorite Cig

Awsome Video

I think fat boy broke 100, and their were 5 straight bottom 90 MPH guns like them, The Donz (Frank) owns one and i think his is hi 90's with the potential to go over 100.

I thought the spider painted staggered boat ran in the teens? Owned by the guy who owned Offshore Performance in Graysonville, MD.

Not huge numbers but respectable. Just shy of triple digits.

oh yea, 117, forgot about that one, Bill Procter spiderboat. I think craigs boat was over 100 with the 1200's in it too.
My boat ran 112 with the 1240's in it and I've never heard of any other side-by-sides getting over 108 or so. Disclaimer: I had nothing to do with my boat getting to that number. The previous owner did all of the work and spent all of the time and $$$$$ to get it there. :D Sonny Leonard, JT @ TnT and Art Lilly did all of the work from what I've been told. I ran the boat with that power for one season.... and then went to a "lower cost" alternative. :) I know that D-MAN got his boat up to 107 or 108 and there have been others that have busted 100. There's is a chitload of power needed and even more setup work to hit that number. I think that 900HPs will get one into the mid-90s and 1100s or so HP is what it takes to bust 100. |
We have seen 112 mph in my dad's (Frank) many times. It does 108 109 all day. It's has 1100's cheif

Anybody have pictures of the spider boat? 117 is crazy fast out of a straight bottom. Here are a few pictures of the Spider Boat. By the way, the best that I have heard that it has run is 114/115. I have two good friends that have been onboard with Bill when that happened. Bill also has a 46 Cig that runs 117. |

950hp. They are now 850hp and still respectable. We will meet up at Kellys or PIB in the summer. |

December of 1978. Mar del Plata, Argentina and the boats are being brought down from the port of Buenos Aires, 200 miles to the north. The offshore World Championships were about to begin.
We all watched as a fully covered boat comes into the pits and Bobby Saccenti, who was the throttleman on the boat, begins to uncover it.....AJAC HAWK. This was the first ever 37.6 built. It was taken out of the 39 foot mold, by blocking it and adding a 9 foot wide 36 foot race boat deck and trimming and adding length to it. After much fine tuning, that boat beat me in the Bahamas 200 in June of 1980 by 30 seconds....that was the first win ever, by the boat to be called later the"38 Top Gun" Light on fuel, good water conditions, with the approx 700 HP engines we had back then, the best we ever saw was low to mid 90 MPH. |
