Cafe Racer Speeds
1 Attachment(s)
I scraped threads on here to compare speeds & configs of Cafe Racers. Lots of missing, important info (HP or RPMs, etc), but still interesting....
Speeds in blue font were called out as "GPS". Where ranges were reported, I picked the low end. The reported ranges or rough estimates are in the "Comments" column. HP numbers range from estimates to dyno numbers, some are prop HP, others aren't. I left off the OSO names to prevent arguments :lolhit: (but I've got 'em) http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/a...1&d=1326044968 I'll add my data after a few runs in the spring. Counting the days... :boat: |
I would say a couple of those numbers are "optimistic".

I'm guessing that we are the 80 mph, #3, 750 hp boat listed
Our cafe ran 79.8 MPH per GPS with 4 guys, near full on fuel. Reportly ran 82 MPH in the shootout for what it's worth. Standard lay up, #3's. Boat had 598 tall decks that was reported to have 750 HP. But, I was told by the guy currently building our new power that we had somewhere around 590-600 HP, not 750. We could turn 3 blade, 28 pitch props to 5400 rpm. Brad Smith is building our new 619 c.I. engines. One engine was deno'd last Friday and hit 740 ft lbs of torque at 5500 rpm's before the deno went down. I'll be able to post hp and final power numbers in a couple days. I hope to have some new top end numbers in 4 - 6 weeks. Chad |
To hit that speed loaded and spin those props you had 700+ flywheel hp, sick stinger can't spin 28 four blades with 640 dyno'd hp, trs but 3s are prob only good for 3 mph or so more than trs

MODEL*500 Displacement CID/ LTR*502 (8.2) Propshaft Horse- power *470 Propshaft Kilowatts 350 Engine Type*V8 Bore*4.47 in (113.5 mm) Stroke*4.00 in (101.6 mm) Compression Ratio*8.75:1 Compression Pressure*175 psi (1207 kPa) The Bravo gear ratio is 1.36. Not sure what was done at Lip-Ship in 2000. I plan to call and see if they have any records. The carbs are 830 cfm based on model number, which I think are different than the stock HP500. |

Motors came out to be 632's, naturally asperated - 746/751 HP, both 770 torque. Still have the #3's and spinning 28 pitch, 3 blade cleavers to 5750+ rpm range. I know I can improve but only maybe to the 83... MAYBE??? 84 mph range. I never thought that I would match my 'paint' speed but was hoping to get a little close than I did or might get to. Man, it takes some serious HP to move these old bricks!!!:party-smiley-004: |
Was it Sat morn? I heard some Big noise early but didnt make it to point to see who it was.
Sounded REAL Good!!! Dont forget to blow thru Drowning so we can get a look. |

I think the run he's talking about was sometime this afternoon. Either way, he's got a LOT of homework to do if he's going to keep up with me. :hijack:
Buck Either way, I have you covered!:gfight: |
