35 Cafe and 38 Top Gun
Ok how fast have we got our older 35 and 38's up too? Non step hull, late 80's early 90's. Considering one and was wondering what kind of speed to expect and what can be obtained.
|
Assume 75mph with 600 HP.
They're much faster on the interstate than the water. |
Unless you have big power, you will get 65-75 tops w/500-600 HP.

91 Cafe, 525's, trs, 71mph (according to phone gps app)
|
1994 Top Gun, Freshwater, Bravo 1, Labbed Maximus Props, 605hp at 5500rpm. 73 mph was the best with perfect waves, half tank and 2 people. I always could get the boat to 68mph, even fully loaded and 5-6 people on boat. I'm getting Arneson ASD7M surface drives put on now. The boat was suppose to be ready this last March. I'm still waiting. It's been a nightmare!!!
|
My 93 Cafe with 550hp and Bravo's with labbed 26's ran a best of 78mph but ran 75mph every day.
|
Twin 1240's will put a 1988 Top Gun @....112
Twin 770's will put it @ 85 or so :D;) |
I have seen 73 on GPS with my 35' Flat Deck it has Hawk 540/575s in it. That was with 5 on board and half a tank of fuel and one engine a little hurt. With just me on board and a 1/4 tank of fuel, it ran 73 on GPS! :lolhit: Hoping to add 100hp each over the winter so it can run 73 GPS

Mine is running in the upper 90's with the new Cobra power (2 hours). Haven't gotten different props since my old engines. Engines aren't broken in yet. Should be 100+. I know that I detuned the engines alot, so all it takes is a different pulley. I only make 7 lbs of boost. The boat is for Sale (not in classifieds). 3A's, Lipship Interior, Drives set up and done at TNT and Huber Trans (40 hrs), Latham, Livorsi, CMI. Search my name for pics.

Looking at a 1990 35' Cafe. Nice boat but seems a little high? $67,950 for a 22 year old boat? is that in line?

As an owner, I certainly like that $67k price for a Cafe better than $28k!

As much as I don't want to say this 67 is kind of high considering what some of the other NICE cafe's on this website have sold for.
Also - That is more than I paid for my 1990 in 2006 - mine had fresh power at the time as welll as all the niceties (MM Strainers, CMI's, Swim Platform, Spare Props, etc.....) |
I ran 59 mph at 4000 rpm on my cafe the first run out and ended up having two hurt motors. 540 hawks with #3s and 28p blades. Should be around 650 hp 548 cid engines now once it’s back together next month and then I’m gonna shoot for mid 70s plus |
2000 35 Top Gun LE (cafe hull). 500 HP's on 26's. 70 any given day. 72 best. We call it the Ron Popiel boat..."Set it and forget about it".

You should see 73ish. Had 650 HP a side in our gun with 3A's and we were at 75 on a good day. Guns hull is more efficient than Café.
what props? |
