42X, need more air in engine room??

Anybody else notice that when they open their hatch to get fenders out after a long run that it is HOT in there?? I am running two big blower motors and it just seems like the three little vents on each side arent nearly big enough to get enough air in for motors of that size. I noticed that on the new 42 on the Cig web site there are big louvers installed in the hatch. My motors run cool and oil temps are good but it is just the ambiant air temp that i am wondering about.

I can feel the heat come from my scoops and Scot says I have baby blowers.:lolhit:

How does that 42 run, it was always one of my favorites. I saw it new a Miami boat show. Congrats on your purchase.

Thank you, the boat runs amazing, everytime i take it out i like it more and more. The gps recall shows 121 but ive never really let it run out and played with the trim. Usually just cruise around 80 at 4k rpm with a couple quick bursts up over 105.

Your welcome, I'm no expert but I would think with that many ponies it would need more air.

302Sport 08-28-2012 11:14 AM

That's what I think, maybe I'll call cig or lipship

redbud35 08-28-2012 07:50 PM

It prolly has the new Merc 1100's or 1350's. They need a ton of air.

302Sport 08-28-2012 08:34 PM

I agree but how much more than some big blower motors???

If it is the one that Shogren delivered, it will run 130 but it is propped for acceleration vs top end.

2013 42x

Actually 6 people and fuel it was 128 with incredible acceleration. This one has the new bottom (updated 2010), new hatch (plenty of air flow for the turbos) and new interior. Very cool boat.

Can you post a few pic's of the hatch on your boat? I would bet you have an issue of not being able to get air out. You need good circulation to get the hot air out. If you run with the blowers on and them open the hatch I bet the temp's will go down. This would be a good test. At that point some venting at the rear of the hatch would help.

A few photos will give a better idea.

Here's a link that should show you the majority of angles of new hatch.

Thanks for the pics Pier57. I'd say you have pretty good airflow in but not air circulation as stated before. I cannot believe Cigarette would not make provisions for this. I would suggest some vents on the back of the hatch that equal minimum 30% of the intake size. This will help a bunch. Another thing to look at is the affect of the windscreen and back seat headrest on forced air into the engine compartment.

Anybody have some pics of a standard 42x hatch, no inlets at all except for 3 little 2 in round holes on the gunnels. It is so air tight I can't even hear my blowers whining when they're making 10lbs of boost

302Sport 08-30-2012 09:32 AM

heres some pics of my boat.......
