Looking at the photos of this Cafe I have a feeling it might have been mine at one time.
You can see the drives are spinning in. I switched them to do that. The cover looks like the one I had made for it. Everything I see looks identical to my old boat. The dash is exactly like mine. 26k sounds cheap. |
Its a very clean and good looking boat for its year. I saw it at the Manhasset Bay Poker Run a few weeks ago.....
And yes, it does seem underpowered.... |
Jesus - looking at the price of some of these Cafe's makes me realize I'm going to own mine forever...............

I dugout some of the old pics I have of my old boats, notice the cover and the drives. That is my old boat. Nobody would make a cover like that besides me. I have used that black with red piping for years on boats and I put the left drive on the right side and the right drive on the left side to spin the props in.

Speaking of this boat, I have the bimini top from this boat which never went with it. It is made out of stainless, not aluminum like most biminis. It was a factory option. If anyone wants to buy it I will part with it.
|
The more I look at it the more I see. If you look at the tabs and tie bar has zincs on both of those....small world.
|
underpowered? or 60 isn't fast enough
as i remember the 420 trs was a good package. |
Personally I think it's a great buy....26K for a Cig! If you by the boat knowing you are going to put some money in it I don't think you can get hurt. Yea it might not be the fastest thing out there but you are going to have a solid ride and you can always upgrade the power.

I thought I saw that in Ontario Canada for sale not too long ago w/o a trailer

Lucky Strike,
Your old boat appears to still be in it's original factory setup (unmolestered engines & drives) and as CigaretteSam said, "Very clean and good shape for it's year". I tried to contact the seller, but no answer on this labor day weekend. I'd like to drive up to see it and wondered if you might answer a few questions, if you don't mind. Would the sellers description of it being "Delivered to lake of the ozarks where it lived for 10 years and then was put in storage for 10 years" be accurate? .....Your the original owner and just want to see if there history jives straight with you. If you need to PM me please do................"I'd definately reunite the canopy with the boat if it were mine!.......................Thanks, Scippy |
I believe the seller is correct. I bought it used in about 1995 & sold it a few months later.
Martin Marine picked it up & delivered to the customer. Does anybody know what a Stainless frame Bimini top would be worth in good shape? Most people have aluminum frame tops, but anything you get from Cigarette is top of the line. |
As far as the 420's not having enough power.
I believe a Hawk 525 engine is nothing but a stock 420 with a B&M 174 blower. I had those Hawk engines in a 1991 Top Gun ( The Pink Flamingo ) for those of you that remember my boat. It was a carbon fiber gun and ran in the mid 70's with stock hawk 525's & TRS drives |

Here are a few pictures from the Manhasset Bay Poker Run I took.......like I said before, very clean and in good shape for its age, and at the price of 26k, i'd say its a great deal! Not many Cig's in that size range for that price!

Lucky Strike,
Does this cafe have full hyd. steering? CigaretteSam, Pics don't dissapoint looks as stated "Very clean" |
I would say unless its rotted (I BET ITS NOT) it is a great buy for that kind of money, not many Cafe's under 30,000 period, I say with 420's should run 60-63 depending on water, but the Cafe rides great and thats a swwet ride for that kind of money, remember its all about rot, if you buy another boat and it needs a ton of hull work that most do, you will easily drop 5-10,000 rebuilding hulls...
I dont see much rot in even older Cigs, usually just transom and thats normally from someone drilling to add stuff and not sealing holes right.. |

All the Cafes have bad transomes, the jig for the trim tabs wasn't in the correct place or the stringer was placed right in the through hole for the tabs (so they ran a wood screw in some) and it didn't get a nut and bold - water would go right in the hole, then in the transom - Easy to check, just look for the nut on the inner side - This is a nice boat, you can't go wrong for the price unless it needs drives and they can go without any warning -

Just have the dash painted white & it will look 5 years newer.
Great looking boat, price is :eekdrop: |
I don't think "ALL of the Cafe's have bad transoms" is a fair statement.

I would say that is not a cafe problem, all of the last 8 or so boats I've put kplanes on or taken off have had 1 lag bolt in each. It's just the way stringers line up with the chines

If no, (full hyd. steering on this cafe') what did cigarette offer (back then) as their bare minimal -or- out the door standard steering system?......What would a full hyd. system cost today 'and" is it definately recommended?
|
Someone added full hydraulic to my 35 Mistress, man is that nice to have!! and I only run 63!!
I would not let that stop me from buying this boat if I were looking, its not a deal breaker... especially since most will n ot have it anyway.. |

My boat has Hawk 525's & does not have full hydraulic steering. It has Imco external but cable internal. I plan on buying a kit this winter to convert it to full.
