Differences between 42X & 42 Tiger & between 700 Mercs vs 1200 Cobra

I am looking at boats and im not to sure what I want as of now but I was interested in the 188th street 42x for sale on here. Now my question is what exactly is the difference between the 42x and the 42 Tiger. And as far as the engines go it seems like the 700 mercs are selling way better than the 1200 cobras. I was wondering what the reasoning for that was if it was having to keep up with maintenance or why they would be selling for less but cost more new. Also if anyone has in videos of the 188th street 42x i would be very interested in seeing them. Thank you for your time. Kevin

A 42x is a staggered or even triple engine model and the 42 Tiger is a side-by-side model.
As for the Merc 700's??? I Like the Old School type power cause they are easy to work on and get parts for.

Easy way to tell the difference between the tiger and a newer x style bottom is that the x bottom has a very small third step after the first two big ones. If you are serious about buying a 42 cig, I think you will be hard pressed to find a cleaner, faster, and more complete package than this boat for the money.

42X is a faster/better handling boat with all things being equal....add #6's and 1200 Cobras, and you got a serious boat!

Out of curiosity what would be the difference in maintenance costs on 700s/NXT vs 1200/#6s? I think that is one of the things the OP is trying to figure out.

The 42 Tiger hull does not like speeds over the mid 90's. The 42X fixed that.

The maintenance cost is exactly what I'm concerned with I will be maintaining it with an open checkbook as others say but mine will be empty and I do almost all work on my own. It just seems that the cost of a new 1200 is alot more than the 600 or 700 Mercs but the used boats with the big power always seem to have a lower resale price, just wondering why this is. I've been looking at 39' Outerlimits but have decided that I don't like the side by side cockpit seating and this 188th st has really caught my attention as I'm not into the really flashy paint scheems

Thats my boat, its the only 42 ever built or painted like that. There is also a 38 with 525's that has the same paint.

For the price of this boat you can't go wrong. Even if you sold the 1200s for 35-40 and bought a pair of 700s you'd still be fine. Have you called cobra and asked them about the reccomended maintenance on that power?
