?'s about 35's and 38's

Can someone tell me what the difference is between the Top Gun and the 38 flatdeck?
Where there any structural changes to the Mistress when they removed the teak? Was the teak just installed over the fiberglass that's visable on the later models?
What's the difference between the Mistress and the Cafe Racer aside from the deck? Same hull?
Thanks

Cafe is infinetly more modern than the Mistress. Especially the post-90 cabins.

Different cockpits, different deck, different engine hatch, etc............

Thanks. That's one down. How bout the rest? Surely the Cigarette owners section of offshore only can answer these questions in a heartbeat

what I know of or heard...

38 gun has notch, flatdeck does not... I think the flat deck is a tad heavier...

mistress and cafe share same lower hull, mistress has a little more weight to it and mistress has floor webbing I guess its called?? the cafe does not have the extra webbing under engines my mistress does, I dont think early Mistresses did..seems most 83-86 mistress's have that..dont know if it really matters..

Cafe has one huge hatch, mistress has 2 small ones open side to side..

teak and windscreen Mistress's are same just cosmetic really... the early Mistress had vents on sides of the bow..

The cafe has more deck hight that is obvious also more updated look overall... higher freeboard...

Thanks. So if someone were in the market for a Mistress it's more or less a matter of taste as to whether to get an older teak one? Structurally/build wise they are all the same underneath the wood ?

bck 12-08-2012 01:09 AM

I've never set foot in one of the older teak ones let alone ridden in one but I have a hard time understanding how all that wood doesn't loosen up over the years. It just seems like it would have to be less solid sounding and feeling even if what's underneath is the same ?

I have a '79 with teak interior and big power. The interior shows no signs of working loose, and the boat is still a brick. I pulled some of the paneling down to run wires a while back. It's mostly very thin panels, especially in the overhead. The boat shows signs of stress just in a few places, so it has been used, but no sounds or rattles from anything inside

Its cosmetic, not structue...

As far as the ride, I been on many boats and besides the 41 Apache, the Mistress hands down has the most solid ride of any boat I have been on, and what I read about others comments backs that up... I am more then impressed with mine, especially in lake Erie slop water... and we get some nasty chit

Thanks for the info. No question they are all great boats. Just having never been on an earlier one with the teak I was concerned that they might be different.

I've found some decent pics of the teak ones with the smoked windshields. Any good pics of the newer style around? Full force - I saw the ones you posted in another thread but they didn't show the windshield area too well.
