American Muscle III

Did not realize there was a trilogy.

Saw the boat at Gilbert's in November and I personally think AM II is way better looking. Those colors just don't go with an American muscle theme....

BraceYourself 01-17-2013 12:10 PM

If it had rebuilds... The blower pulley update was a must per mercury...

It still has the old design pulley, old valve covers, etc... Just my observation.

thisistank 01-17-2013 02:12 PM

John Ellways old boat.

Wonder when AM IV will be revealed. :-)

nate 01-17-2013 04:10 PM

why was this one not painted at TAOD like the others?

SkaterMike82 01-17-2013 04:20 PM

Don't like this one at all....Nothing beats AMII. One of the nicest Cigs ever made IMO

Not a fan of this one's paint at all, I also think AMII was the best one...loved that boat

Because both Cig and Taod had ended their relationship at that time.

Nothing like "2007" boat pricing in 2013.

I'm glad I don't live in fantasy land & live on this place called EARTH.

BraceYourself 01-18-2013 09:52 AM

Two sales techniques...

1.) List it high. Way higher then 1 & 2 sold for. But wait it's a better boat. Then continue this logic. A few years later think, the market will come back, a couple years later dump it for practically nothing. But you do get the fun of storing and maintaining it. Along with the once in awhile serious buyer to play with.

2.) It needs listed for 269K. Then hope to get 225K.
And end up at or slightly below 200K.

But what do I know....

tim mccray 01-18-2013 01:17 PM

They would be lucky if they got 200k out of it. That asking price is a joke. That boat has been through the wringer.. It's been wet, fell off a trailer, God knows what else. There's a reason the interior has been replaced. I saw AMIII at TNT right after we had AMII delivered to there. Couldn't believe the poor condition it was in, the boat had been rode hard and put away wet, literally. And thats not a CMI exhaust system, it looks like Stainless Marine, not that there's anything wrong with that, but the add is wrong. I'll stop there...

Soooooo basically what I'm reading is this boats overpriced by 200k, the ad has integrity issues and the boat has some untold but not unknown history. Hmmmm. Good luck on the sale.

You and I were both standing next to Elway on the dock in Key West when it was taking on water up the stringers. Wasn't it you that said "Hey, you might want to turn the bilge pumps on"? Then it was all over the net when that thing fell off the trailer, onto the road, and I think that was down in the Keys as well. And who knows what all happened after that. When I saw it at TNT in October, I almost didn't recognize it. Boat's had a hard life, just saying.. And to have a dealer ask that kind of price and talk about how "clean" it is?? How can you post an ad like that and think people aren't going to talk? What did they just spend 100k on? Besides the interior and a new exhaust system? When was the last time the engines, tannys and drives were gone through? Good luck on that one...

Yes, I do believe that was me. :D

At least Kelly was nice enough to buy Elway a drink while watching his boat nearly sink. :lolhit:

Heard it had an issue at a dock once too. Something about sitting nearly sideways in the water....

tim mccray 01-18-2013 10:49 PM

lol She did buy those guys a drink:) John and the guy in the bilge.... I don't even know if the current owner/owners even know about that.

Ahhh.. Good times, good times..

don't know, but that ones ugly too, I hate the dash layout in that boat.... I cannot believe how much better AMII looked over both the others..

seafordguy 01-19-2013 06:34 AM

With all due respect to stainless marine, that is unacceptable for a boat "of this caliber".

I agree to disagree, I was thinking about putting a SM set-up on our Cig. Randy @cobra and tommy @chief say they make more power than a CMI or stelling header and you get a 5 year warranty on the SM headers, which gives you piece of mind on a motor worth that much $$. Granted, they dont look as nice, but they dont leak either.

+1

Those are not the standard stainless marine, but the big Gen III ones with 5" elbows. And yes, they do support big power.

I think Lip ship did something with them as well. for the 525/700's with the funky bolt edelbrock heads... I wouldn't have a problem sacrificing bling for reliability.

BINGO!!! Never understood the loyalty to a header that notoriously cracks and causes mechanical failure!

Had the orginal set of Stainless Marine's on our 95 Gun and NEVER had an issue with them.

Will you please stop talking about the past and buy a boat allready! :D

soggy bottom 01-19-2013 11:13 AM

Why is it that 46s are that hard to sell, no matter what the year or what the power, when it is there most efficient hull design.

soggy bottom 01-19-2013 11:18 AM

BTW Pier 57 has a 2009 for the same price as AMIII, Man Im really torn between the two of them.

I was just looking at boats....I'm turning into the new Cashbar...

tim mccray 01-19-2013 01:34 PM

Someone else just mentioned that Pier 57 has a 46 for sale, for the same price as AM3, so what does that tell you about the price of AM3. I agree that headers, just look bad a$$. But every single boat that I've owned with headers, whether it's CMI or Stelling's, have all cracked. Some have cause some pre mature engine rebuilds. I think Stainless Marine is the way to go.

soggy bottom 01-19-2013 02:05 PM

That 2009 has had several owners already,
I wonder why.
