1 Attachment(s)
Brought this 1974 #18 Cig home last week. Put 2 new batteries in rebuilt carb and an auxiliary fuel tank and she fired right up. Now time to clean her up and fresh paint.

The boat came from Ohio. It's been sitting for 7 years, the previous owner started the restoration rebuilt the motor all new wiring and did a custom dash and fairing before he passed away. The daughter has had the boat sitting in a barn for awhile and decided to let go of it.

After running on the hose pulled the dipstick and there was water in the oil. Pulled the valve covers and intake, this is what I found. Anybody now of any good engine rebuilders in SW Florida?

ship it to Tommy

Diamond in the ruff. Could have a nice small block built for under 4k.

Take it to Joe Irwin (Irwin on the boards) @ Fast Forward 727-847-5777 he is in New Port Richey. He is a 3rd Generation Marine engine builder. His grampa Stan Irwin built offshore race engines for Don Aronow back in the day.. His dad built Hydroplane race engines. When Joe is not building marine engines he is building 3000hp Big Block Chevys
You won't be sorry you took it to him, all the high dollar names have worked on my engines..... There is no comparison, Your wallet will thank you also!! Half way down the page Top Banana Boat http://www.historicraceboats.com/gallery.htm "HORBA Managing Director Charlie McCarthy with his 24 foot banana boat. Charlie built this boat from the Cigarette molds Don Aronow sold him to start banana boat co. Don Aronow rigged this boat for Charlie using special engines built by Stan Irwin of Custom Marine in Miami. Boat is shown here winning the Key West race in the 70's. Also check out Brodix http://www.brodix.com Fast Forward Race Engines has the fastest pass in X275 for 2013.... That is a 2000hp racing class!! |
Here is my thread if you want to read through it and check out some of Joe's Work. He is helping me with my engines right now!!

Boat wash
2 Attachment(s)
Thought we would give the boat a bath before sanding. Most of the paint came right off. Is that just improper prep from the painter? I can't see a 2000 psi pressure washer with a 30 degree nozzle would do this to a boat that was prepped properly would it?

that's a cool project are you painting it yourself?
|
Removed some extra weight.

Took the old Volvo dou prop off to make room for the Stelling box and Blackhawk drive. Next week I'll pull the motor and get ready to fill the transom.

I remember that boat. The girl that owned it was shauna, her father used to race an all metal boat. I dont recall whether it was alum or stainless. Good luck with it.
