1990 tg 38

What is the max safe hull speed? It's a heavy layup

seafordguy 05-29-2013 07:12 AM

Old School could at least tell you how stable his was back when he had his big engines in it.

What size engines are you planning on running?

anthonystempak 05-29-2013 07:06 PM

ZZ572R'S ported

Wonder what the cost would be to step the hull
Can you ask old-school l can't reach him
Blowers l guess if it needs it,it should do 115-130
A 90 velocity does 113

And the correct speedmasters

Keep in mind the Velocity (great boat too) is an entirely different boat. I had a 1994 TG with 1300 HP and #3A SSM's, it topped out at 80 MPH. You'll need BIG power to get it in the upper 90's. To have the hull stepped will be a costly proposition.

Well First Off You Cant "Step" The Hull You Would Have To Buy A "Stepped Hull" Which Would Be A Late 2000 And Newer Hull.....So I would Say To "Step " The Hull Would Set You Back To A Min Of 125k
Second You Are Dreaming Or Smoking If You Think By Adding Blowers To A Pair Of 572's Your Going To Do 115-130 Which By The Way Is A Huge Gap...
Third Velocity Is Crap.....lol
Fourth Do Some Home Work.......
And As For Your First Post....All Depends How Big Your Balls Are.....!!!

POWERPLAY J 05-29-2013 08:47 PM

Some T-55's might push a straight bottom gun to 115-130.

Play nice!

Sorry, you are incorrect sir, you can step a hull; Jeff Haylett did it on a non-stepped Fountain and made a VERY successful race boat. There is a recent thread on stepping conventional hulls.

The guy is looking for info, let's try to help him out.

kvogt 05-29-2013 09:18 PM

its difficult to get a 1990 gun into the mid 90s. From my knowledge they handle well to just under 100mph.

anthonystempak 05-29-2013 09:46 PM

Gota be faster than that hef has 2001 38 maybe l can get it off him for somesort of service

seafordguy 05-29-2013 09:50 PM

See post # 10.

You're not going 130 unless you rotate the face of the speedometer counterclockwise about 90 degrees.

a 2001 is a step bottom.

Why are you arguing with people that OWN the boats and have run the power in them?

Facts are Facts - flat bottom Cigs from the 90's just aren't that fast.

88bullet 05-29-2013 09:58 PM

mine has 750's a side and runs low-mid 80's
my friend has 1000's in his and hits the c note
both straight bottom kevlar boats
tanks in the water but MAN do they ride nice!!!!

I disagree with you as ours and Craig's (Oldschool) are well above 100mph and it handles GREAT. It's all about the setup.

Hollowpoint 05-30-2013 08:37 PM

Dat dar is funny!!!!
Talking about Seafordguys turning the speedo 90 degrees!
My 2 cents......if you want to see triple digits, just buy a stepped TG and be done with it. Otherwise, you will spend 100 grand on engines that will need rebuilding every year or two.

kreed 05-30-2013 09:25 PM

130 mph........bwahahahaha!.....omg!

It will still take about 750hp to see 100mph in a T/S Gun. Check this site out this calculator is pretty accurate.
Speed Calculator

CignificantOther 05-31-2013 12:41 PM

If the hull is Kevlar, side by side configuration, and full cabin it will take at least 1100 HP X 2 to break 100mph in the real world. That is also with #6 drives mounted very high. If it is a standard fiberglass hull, it's going to be almost impossible. The limited staggered, Kevlar hulls, with half and/or no cabins will break 100 with a little less HP.
130mph in a straight bottom 90's Cig is unheard of.......
