Mistress with 600's propping?? speeds?

I am about to put in 600hp engines in my Mistress, dyno proven 600.... what would I start at with propping on TRS? the doner boat has Hydromotive Q4 27, I know the Mistress wont spin them, I was thinking in my hull a 3 blade 25Mirage plus? or smaller 4 blade for sure...

I assume I am looking at 72-74 mph best, the doner boat ran 78 with TRS... its a 34 ScarabIII

just wanna see where I start

seafordguy 07-02-2013 06:33 AM

I run 26 four blades on my cafe with slightly less power - probably about 575

Full Force 07-02-2013 06:34 AM

Bravo or trs? Mines trs... What does it run?

EightSecv6 07-02-2013 07:47 AM

My Mistress is out for interior work, I hurt one engine last year and it is ready to go back in. They are Hawk 540s and I think they are about 600, it will run 73-74 with #3 drives

J-Bonz 07-02-2013 09:32 AM

Is this going to happen before this weekender after? Should be over on Thursday or Friday for the day. I am curios to hear more.
Jr.

Couple weeks jr.... I will be at ki Friday you??

Harvey 07-02-2013 11:58 AM

The 25 three blades will work great and be easier on the TRS drives, should be 73 loaded to 75/76 light with two people. That's what my 82 Mistress did.

CIG3 07-02-2013 01:56 PM

I agree with you and Harvey. A Mirage Plus (25) is a great starting prop. The Mirage PLus has plenty of blade area so nice out of the hole and nice cruise. Might suffer a little on the top but not much. The Hydo Q4 bites hard on the top end and is tough on drives with a heavy boat like yours.

Full Force 07-02-2013 03:17 PM

Yea, I alrready figured most likely going to 25 Mirage plus, I have a nice set of 24's I will use for a base, I don't even know if I will run the boat with the 27 Hydros, no way in my mind do I think it will spin them in my hull...

I am happy expecting 72-74 out of it, I think it should be around that... so that's sweet speed gain!!

I am shooting for Thursday or Friday. Friday more likely. I will give you a call when i get back up that way. Back to the boat, that would be a great speed gain!

cigrocket 07-02-2013 06:13 PM

KInda figured 25 Mirage was gonna be about where I wanna be, I still don't like the idea of 4 blade on TRS unless you REALLY need them...

Biggus 07-03-2013 05:26 AM

-When I had the TRS drive on my old Top Gun, I could not get any life out of the lowers when running 4 blades. Broke the rt hand pinions on a regular basis. The 25 Mirage Plus worked pretty good.

frickstyle 07-03-2013 06:00 AM

Tim,

I have a pair of labbed 24 pitch 4 blade Bravos that came with my boat. Boat had similar power and TRS, these are freshly labbed props, I was told boat ran 76mph, who knows. You would have to put hubs in them, but you are welcome to try them out. I doubt I will use them. I would probably keep them for spares out on the water or let them go for a reasonable price to a fellow Cig buddy....
Let me know if you want them, they are sitting in my basement collecting dust.

MILD THUNDER 07-05-2013 06:39 AM

I broke two TRS lowers when I had my Formula 402 in less than 25 hours behind 600s. First time was with Maximus 5 blades(knew it was a bad idea but boat liked em), second time was with 4 blades. I tried some 25p mirage plus' but boat wouldn't plane with them. Otherwise that's what I woulda ran to try and save the drives. Like biggus said, it was always the RH lower.

A friend of mine ran 700HP in front of trs in a 30ft scarab. He really never had drive issues. I think his key was he underpropped the boat slightly, spinning his engines to 6000 at wot. Took some of the torque load off the drives. He ran 25 or 26p hydromotive 4 blades.

Either way the increase in power should be nice!

Full Force 07-05-2013 06:46 AM

Yea, I know I will be starting to push limits, at same time TRS can be a strong drive, the engines make power t 5200, designed for reliability, there can be so much more there if I want it.... but I like the 600 mark figure that's about breaking point of blowing chit up...of course anything can happen though!!

MILD THUNDER 07-05-2013 07:29 AM

I think the key with them is keeping them in the water. If memory serves me right, its the RH lower that usually goes because where the gear is located compared to the LH lower. The housing itself flexes and gear usually breaks a tooth.

They are good drives. My buddy's had them on his scarab iii behind 420's for many years. Boat has 1500 hours, drives were rebuilt once I believe.

Yes the RH is the one to keep eye one, pushes against the spanner nut, the left pushes into the case, one thing to do is hard shim them, helps a ton my buddy told me, the mistress is heavy, does not leave the water too much lol

frickstyle 07-05-2013 09:42 AM

When you're ready you can buy my Konrads so I can get the drives I really want, starts with an A.......

Not sure the Konrads are going to hold up anyway with what I have going in there, time will tell.

Full Force 07-05-2013 11:17 AM

I don't see doing konrads.... Too much money! Lol. I don't plan to make this boat run much more then 75 at best... This is a budget boat!!
