89 Gun

Alright, After a summer of running with my Gun. I have a few questions. First I REALLY need to get rid of my Black dash,Looks good but Hot. How big of a job is that? How hard is it to get the door out? Going to do guages as well,Who does the best dash replacements?

Tom - When we bought my '94 Gun, it didn't have any dash or gauges. So it was a little more work than you will have, and it wasn't too bad. I got most of the stuff from Mindy Doller at Doller Offshore. If you do this during the winter and need a hand, I'll come down and give you a hand.

Look at the thread where Dave posted pictures. If you're going to do it, might as well go that route. Almost a standalone replacement package, and it won;t break the bank to do it.

Someone can elaborate on how to remove the door. I think the Port side dash "cap" unscrews and you yank it off to get access to the door?
This comes off:

Mine was original black (wasted ans chalky) I had Dave paint that too:

I don't want to give away his secrets, but he "modifies" your existing dash to upgrade and refresh the look:

dont ditch the black dash!!! :O :O old school is always cool you gotta embrace it!! keep it original the only that will be dated in 10 years is the current look!!

I like the black dash too. You can add color with panels, gauges, bezels. Old school baby

Whatever the color the fiberglass part needs refinishing at some point. Boat is in exceptional condition for it's age and also being #19 of the 20 Anniversary sold in 89-90.White with red silver and black stripe.Boat is in original condition. I can get the black to look good but the gauge panel and rocker switches need replacement, Maybe I'll start there.

the port side dash comes out pretty easy, just pull all the 1/4-20 screws and that side pops right out. it also gives easy access to the door and slider rails. couple screws and those are out as well. The stbd helm on the other hand is kind of a pain but in the grand scheme of things its easier pulling then trying to deal with refinishing it in the boat. Both are set in a heavy bead of silicone and that has to be removed for good results. The upper section of the helm is also glassed in and needs to be cut, mostly its just tabbing around the gauge area. Its well worth the effort.

For Frickstyles boat I did a set of dash caps that emulate the look of the newer Guns and have molds. it basically caps right over the old dash with the removal of the compass riser.
