trs vs ssm

any of you guys with cigs ever changed over from trs to a speedmaster outdrives? i have an 35 that seems to have hit a wall for speed increases, i recently boosted engine hp from 700 to 800's (dyno) and saw no increase in top end. then installed new 5 inch stellings, no increase again, the only thing i fault this to is the drives, which i changed x dimension on them too.
something seems to be holding the speed at 80-82mph.

Could it have anything to do with hull design?

32fever 08-09-2002 12:37 PM

Sorry, Dave, I just HAD to......

I thought of upgrading the drives, but think that it would be better to just trade up to another boat, and now with the new bravo set ups they are something to think about.

So , you got what you got, unless you want a big project.

Hey, I got 1560 hours on my TRS !! , 610 hours on my current motors.

spitfire1 08-10-2002 10:47 PM

Yeah.....you can get that kind of time out of em if you dont run em above 4000 rpm!!!! :p :p :p :D Just kiddin ya Greg.......

thespy 08-10-2002 10:52 PM

Slow but steady !! :p

DOCTOR DAVE 08-11-2002 08:11 AM

thespy. dont get me wrong about trs drives, they are a great drive. as long as you dont put alot power to them they will last forever. i really believe that they are limited to speed because of the prop diameter, especially on a heavy v bottom. i guess the only way to test this theory is to put my engines in a friends 35 cigarette which has #3's on it. he has a pair of 454's with superchargers (650 hp max) that goes as fast as my 800's. hmmmmmmmmmm might be intresting project.
doug, glad everything is going well!
