Thoughts on my idea :
I was thinking of getting someone to wrap the underside of my hatch in Carbon Fiber.
You guys think it would last? Look good? http://33outlaw.zenfolio.com/img/s8/...94236520-3.jpg http://33outlaw.zenfolio.com/img/s8/...94236474-3.jpg |
I think it would look fantastic , hanging upside down and subject possibly long stretches of heat I would be concerned it might start to sag. But having said that I have a number of performance stickers under my hatch and it's a few years and they are stilling hanging in . The only other consideration is that at night should you need to work in your bilge the dark color will not reflect light very well . So I say go for and don't break down at night .

I think it would look good. I have had vinyl decals under a hatch before(cigarette mistress) and they held up. Don't know why good quality vinyl carbon fiber wouldn't. Unique and cool.
|
they make all kinds of high end car panels and hoods out of carbon fiber so i would think it will hold up just fine. another thought would be to use 3m spray glue and cover the underside of your hatch in carbon fiber upholstery
|
3m makes a high adhesion primer for wrap vinyl, I believe its called '94". I would also use a high gloss 2D vinyl as opposed to the 3D vinyl. The 2d would be smooth and clean easier will the 3D has a carbon texture which would cacth belt dust etc,,,, I would also find someone local to you with some skill at doing wraps instead of doing it yourself.

Why not mirror-plex to show off those engines?

Mirror plex.. hmm I could see me in there upside down trying to keep it clean every 30 minutes |

Mine stays pretty clean, I did the regular mirror-plex and then the red tinted. Looks better in person than the picture

Where do you do get vinyl mirror ?

You could have someone paint it to look like carbon fiber also. I have done it on a few cars, and I'm sure someone out your way can do it, theres a few youtube vids out there on how to do it....

This is the process to use: Water Transfer Printing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CA0DR4GSQg

I also had Mitcher t do this to my current boat,,I know yours will have to say Cigarette ,,,I know not as cool but it will work..lol
|
You could also put carbon fiber vinyl and spray a clear on it so you don't have peeling issues.
|
I like the white personally. You show up everyone in the rough out on the lake let them have the blinged out bilges at the dock!
|
How about carbon base with a cool cig script laid down as a template , white paint, peel the template and clear coat??
Might look pretty cool.. |
^^^ sounds great but I`m lucky to find someone who will do the wrap at a decent price ..much less all that fancyness.:D
