Bullet Owners
I'm having a problem getting my depth gauge working. It's a digital Gaffrig with the in hull transducer that gets glued in place. I've tried everything I can think of even placing the transducer in a bag of water and moving it around to different locations with no luck. It would work for ten seconds and then go blank again.
I'm curious what you guys are using for depth gauges/transducer and mounting location. |
Mine has a guage, but no transducer so its just blank right now anyway.. I haven't looked into getting a transducer for it yet.

Had the same exact problem with my Baja read somewhere it was because the hull is wood sandwiched in fiberglass and the sonar has a hard time pinging through it. Wound up having to go with an external mount.just got my top gun last year and it has no transducer mounted because the transom and bilge where just redone wondering if I'm going to have the same problem
|
I ended up doing an external one on a 33 Outlaw also because I could not get the the hull thru to work, tried 2 transducers. On the Flat deck no problems thou.

Shouldn't be any wood in your bullet hull
|
Didn't think there was wood either.
Gaffrig does sell one now that you mount through the hull but I'm not sure if I want to drill a hole through the bottom of the boat! |
No wood was is in mine. Drilling a hole and mounting it that way.
|
Get a long stick and zip tie a tape measure to it.

Had one in my boat with external transducer. Took it out and will be putting in a gps with depth finder combo. This way I can see the shallow areas on my plotter prior to getting Ito problems. By the time the plain finder transducer is over a shallow area you are already aground. They have transducers that have good mounting hardware and with small screws you may not even get to any wood. I have used the external mount on several boats and never had a problem just use calking in holes and base of bracket.
