TRS Mistress or Cafe, spinning in or out?

Talked to Brett at BBlades today about redoing my labbed 25 Mirage plus, I get 73.5 @5500 so far, drives spinning out, he told me to swap drives and get another baseline and thinks there is more MPH there before we do props, also wants me to try a 27 Mirage plus, has anyone actually gained spinning drives in on these hulls? and if so what was result...??

Sick Stinger 08-12-2014 07:41 PM

Spun mine in no issues what so ever. Docking was fine

Full Force 08-12-2014 09:30 PM

did you try it both ways? Brett is thinking in will be faster..

cigrocket 08-15-2014 08:45 AM

Mine spun in, good for 3-4 MPH

EightSecv6 08-15-2014 11:29 AM

I contemplated trying this on my Mistress with ssm3 on it. The only things that prevented me from it were the labor and the fact Im sure Cigarette tried this on these particular hulls at some point or another and decided to spin them out for a reason. I curious what the real world negative are as compared to the positives. Im looking forward to your results!

Remembe backbin 1985 they didn't have the props we have now and the knowledge to "fix" what's needed. With lambing like today... I'm sure there Is a reason BBlades wanted me to try it... We will find out later tonight!

MILD THUNDER 08-15-2014 09:37 PM

Tim I wouldnt be surprised if you picked up a little speed, and noticed the boat to carry the bow a little better/looser.

Full Force 08-15-2014 09:46 PM

Didn't gain anything but a tossed rod...!!

Full Force 08-16-2014 12:45 AM

Oh well... TheSe boats are time bombs! Season over .... Time to freshen up!!!! Could have been worse! Thank godbibhave land rot too to keep me busy...

donzi matt 08-16-2014 06:59 AM

Lesson here: Spinning props inward will loosen rod bolts :evilb:

Sorry to hear it, did you have any warning something was amiss beforehand or did she just pitch and b!tch?

Full Force 08-16-2014 07:00 AM

Lol nope all was fine then boom oil pressure 70, oil temps 200 nothing out of normal

donzi matt 08-16-2014 07:35 AM

Phil must have done it. :poopoo:

Full Force 08-16-2014 07:38 AM

Haha well I'm not known to be easy on my stuff I run my boats/cars hard all the time that's why I have them!

MILD THUNDER 08-16-2014 07:43 AM

Throwing a rod would make me think there was a fastner issue or a cylinder was detonating and pounding the rod bearing. For most of us average marine guys were aren't revving the engine to the point of stressing the rod so much it breaks. I'd imagine you had some h beams in there ?

Seems like those engines had issues from the day they were built back when the previous owner had them. You prob best to start from scratch now. Throw some cam in those things !

vintage chromoly 08-16-2014 07:54 AM

Sorry to hear Tim.

Is the block or crank hurt too?

ICDEDPPL 08-16-2014 09:18 AM

Yes the plan was buying these for the parts since after parting the scarab I broke even for free engines I wanted to go through them as it was, yes has h beams I will know more when I pull them and tear down in a week or so I might cam them there is so much more power on the table at the same time they make good tq numbers now and not sure how much more I wanna stress the TRS drives and 7 disc Trans I have don't wanna get into upgrading all that for a few more mph I want turn key every weekend, build these the way I want tem and make sure they're right and be happy...

Full Force 08-16-2014 10:09 AM

Def not detonating I will investigate when we tear apart

Full Force 08-16-2014 07:38 PM
