Ace Trailer on Top Gun

Is anyone using an Ace Trailer that advertises under the classified? Wondering how they hold up with a 12,000+lb boat.

Zero Patience 10-16-2014 07:16 AM

If it bolts together, its worth .50 cents per pound.

thisistank 10-16-2014 08:34 AM

I had a south Florida aluminum bolt together trailer. Didn't have a single issue with it in the 7 years I towed with it. And that was with dunking in ocean. I mean I agree there's way better trailers out there but usually double the price.

I will try and post a pic later but my gladiator has an ACE....with every upgrade and option available...including EOH disc brakes on all axles.

Pulls good, much better then I ever thought. All the way from California to Michigan!

every trailer ive ever had was a bolt together trailer ..never had an issue.. formula 382.. 38 top guns ect ..if your a high roller buy a myco I have one under my gun now but only because it came with it .if I had to buy it ..it would have been alum bolt together and saved the rest for fuel

Yep, and I've enjoyed boating in them just as much too! :D

Not saying a welded aluminum or steel trailer aren't super nice. Just saying from my personal experience with a bolted aluminum trailer that I literally put probably 20+k miles on (towing out to lake Havasu, up to Northern California, and mostly dunking in the Pacific Ocean) I never had one issue. Thing towed nice. Only complain't I had was it was narrow (wheels under the hull) so the bunks were vertical making it tricky to pull the boat onto. Other than that....

Homemade top gun trailer, all welded.

The bolt together my Top Gun came with worked just fine. The bunks were flexed over to the side a little from the weight of the boat but it worked.... I got a smoking deal on a myco that I couldn't pass up so I am using that now. The myco loads 10 times faster and the boat sits on it solid, no flexing, like the bolt together deal.

I am having an ACE trailer built now. Will be using it mostly to drag my boat out of the water to have service performed. I called several trailer manufactures but had a better feeling about these guys based on our conversation and Ebay rating. Should be built by Thursday and delivered the following week. Good Luck

My thoughts:

Trailers are tools, very expensive tools that accompany a boat.
Do you buy your tools at WalMart or Craftsman/SnapOn/or-better?

Having owned both bolt-together and welded aluminum trailers under the exact same boat, the welded trailers made by Myco and Manning ARE better in these areas:

Boat support
Maintenance
Loading and overall fit
Towing
Tire wear
Less flex

UrbanDisturbance 10-20-2014 10:26 AM

Thanks for the input. I will consider both.

T-RAV 10-20-2014 10:38 AM

What about McClain since they are local??

Sydwayz 10-20-2014 10:50 AM

They are "OK".
I used to be a fan, but crb76 had one of their earliest welded aluminum trailers. It didn't age well and the bow stand was a poor design that damaged the keel of the boat.

I think they have gotten better over the years, and if you are going to remain local to them for ongoing support, I would say they are still "OK". They are not the quality of Myco and/or Manning though.

I had a bolt-together aluminum McClain trailer under my boat when I got it. It was better than the average bolt-together trailer, definitely not stellar.

There must be some really crappy bolt together's out there because I have a 1999 Continental that is pretty solid. Very little flex. Maybe because I made a drive brace / protector and it has 6 cross bars??? Has no one ever had a welded aluminum trailer crack? I've loaded my boat by myself multiple time so i'm not understanding this loading concern either? Sounds like a setup issue. Maintenance and tire wear. Really??? Are you suggesting bolts come loose? Sorry from my experience towing 10,800 (scaled trailer weight) to Florida and back multiple times, don't agree.

Sydwayz 10-20-2014 11:13 AM

There ARE some really crappy aluminum bolt together trailers. Rocket comes to mind. I've seen some Nextrail trailers that are falling apart as well with minimal use. Continental is on the better side.

It all depends on what you spec, what the builder sources/installs/supplies, and how much you invest.
Not many people walk into a trailer deal with the mindset of "give me the best thing you offer."

Often, the trailer under a boat that was ordered by the dealer is the cheapest thing they can put under it to move it off the lot. They ALL look great when new, and no one really pays attention to the trailer when buying a boat. Now that people are buying used boats and those who buy new boats typically custom order them, we are having a lot more conversations about trailers. We didn't have these conversations 10 years ago.

Just had my new ACE Trailer delivered today and I can tell you so far I am very happy with the trailer and the experience with the company. Looks like it will do the job I need it to do and if I decide to sell it then you can adjust the bunks to fit a lot of boats.

Nice to know you can adjust the bunks. Pictures would be nice!

I can't get them to call me back. I called and tried to set something up last year and they never called me back. I called again about a month ago. They did not call me back for a 2nd time.

I have an ACE that was built last year. 18,000 with 38 Donzi ZX on it. Best Trailer for the money.

Put an ACE under my 35 TG back when I had it. The trailer was great other than the winch stand on the front which was too low and didn't really fit the boat. I took the one off my old Myco and powdercoated it silver and it worked great. Boat was easier to load on the ACE than the Myco too after the bunks were adjusted to fit the boat perfectly.

Just towed my Baja 405 300 miles to Pickwick and enjoyed the way the trailer handled the trip. From front bumper to swim platform was 72 ft 3 in and went around corners great and the brakes worked well. I am happy with my purchase.
