04 gun wiring schematics/ starting issues

Looking for 2004 Top Gun wiring schematics if anyone has a copy it would be appreciated. The boat has 525's in it and has to be jumped at the solenoid occasionally. It acts up intermittently and effects port, starboard or both. Neutral safety switches have been replaced with new. Key on, hit switches and the solenoid for the power connectors in engine compartment clicks.(mounted to rear bench port side) Thinking short or corrosion problem. Schematic will make it easier to find I hope. Thanks

I do not have a wiring Diagram, but have just spent many hours going thru my wiring, can be a little overwhelming.

Sounds a lot like a grounding issue to me, I would check them all.

Thanks for the tip, I will check them out today! Something is wrong in Michigan today the sun is out and it isn't raining?

I second grounds. What does your gauge say when you turn they key on?

Drake22.250 06-16-2015 09:10 AM

When I turn the key it chirps and gauges function. Then when I hit the switches it just clicks on solenoid that ties the batteries together. Will climb on it today and double check gauges do. Thanks for input.

I would test the start assist solenoids first and foremost. I have had them fail but still click. They are cheap and easy to replace, and it seems like just about every boat I own has had them fail at one point.

each engine has another solenoid at the back of the engine its a go between the start toggle switch and the starter at the bottom of the engine,,,use a test light its easy to get to,,,make sure your main ten pin main connector at engine is clean of corrosion,,,the yellow and red wire at that solenoid should light up your test light,,,with key on ,,and start toggle switch on...

I always use a meter of some sort. I've seen a test light work on a circuit but there's not enough voltage or current to power the circuit properly.

Greg, I have a DMM if you need one. Or someone to turn the key while you check. lol.

Give me a shout if you need a hand. I'm in boat mode. Working on the 28.

Bill thanks for the offer, think it might be in the safety switch. Call Brian up and he said to bring it over so I did.

The solenoids are China crap nowadays. They are your problem, the ones on the engine, not the starter. Change them out each year in spring.

We changed them out earlier in the year. Problem was the neutral safety switches malfunctioning intermittently.
