X dimension for Bravos on a Cafe Racer?
OK, new transom's in and we're getting ready to make the cuts for the new XZ drives. Does anyone have any experience with or input on a reasonable X dimension measurement for a standard length Bravo drive? Any special considerations with a CR? One rigger I talked with said 15.75", which sounds reasonable.

Call Lipship and ask Phil. When Sean rigged my current boat Phil gave him the setup. It is higher than a stock Cafe with Bravos. It will slip the props just a bit getting on plane but that is it, and it has no porpoise to it whatsoever. The boat is very well mannered.

15.75 is too deep. I'd go 17" leaves the prop shaft 5" below the bottom.

Thanks for the input.

2x on 17". That is a good safe starting point. Should run really well with bravo props.

Thanks much James and CIG3 for the input. That's what I'm going with to give me a 5" prop shaft depth. And thanks Donzi Matt - I did call Phil @ LipShip. He was very nice, but suggested I put the X at about 18.75 (or a prop depth of about 3") and almost everybody else agreed that was a little too skinny for the all-around performance I'm going for. Glad it's working well for you.
Will let you guys know how it runs. |
Good talking to you today. Good luck with the project

Always start high because its easer to put in a spacer than it is to raise a drive. and a lot cheaper I would at least go with 17.5 X what is your Y dimension ?
