Getting out of boating for a while

Been debating for a bit and after the new year, going to list my Bullet. There are a few things in life that I plan on doing for a while and as hard as it was to decide, I'm going to step away from boating for a bit. We'll see how long it lasts haha..

sleev-les 12-23-2015 07:03 AM

I got out of it for 10 years now I'm back into it, I feel like I lost 10 years of my life.... it was a bad mistake I should have just went on vacation...

ICDEDPPL 12-23-2015 03:28 PM

I don`t like your attitude Scott!

Craney 12-23-2015 04:50 PM

How can live in Annapolis and step away boating that's tuff, anyway good luck.

NKissau 12-23-2015 04:58 PM

Good luck with the sale. I recently decided the same thing. Took a huge hit on my boat to get out of it, but happy with my decision.

Full Force 12-23-2015 05:47 PM

I don't think I can take a year or more off...would drive me nuts

KevD815 12-23-2015 06:15 PM

It is very difficult to walk away from something you love. I stepped away from racing motorcycles a few years ago due to a number of injuries. Even today i still miss it and want to get back into it. However i got into boating right around that time so it made it much easier!

What will you be doing in your time away from boating?

Sold my Formula in 2014. Did a lot to the house that I neglected for years. New Siding, Windows and a nice metal roof. Gonna do more landscaping in the spring. Do I miss the boat? Absolutely and if something comes along that peaks my interest I may get froggy and leap.

Good luck sleev les in whatever you do.

I kinda get what your saying, I'm thinking about "deprogramming" for a year or two and coming back with a low maintenance "built for me" new fast boat. (is there such a boat)

sleev-les 12-24-2015 04:57 AM

There's no doubt I'll be back... Right now just have some other endeavors to deal with. Its going to suck, but its all good. I'm going to list and see who bites. Not going to rush or take a huge hit on it just to sell so I may get my season out of it :D

Nate5.0 12-26-2015 05:17 PM

I hear ya.....doing the same here too, glad I got friends with boats to get me through lol.

Best of luck with the sale bud.

tommymonza 12-26-2015 09:47 PM

Thank you sir......the ink isnt dry till Monday but it should be headed north.

Time to wife up and all that fun cost associated with it, also a new biz venture. Still plan on doing some runs with friends and have miami boat show, loto, Tampa fpc, and some other events booked with friends.

So not totally gone lol. I will be back soon as well, can't stay away

cigrocket 12-27-2015 04:07 PM

I got out of boating once....it was the worst 12 hours of my life...... But I was substantially richer......like lol

caseyh 12-29-2015 08:15 AM

Say this every week. Wish I didn't buy another boat when the first one sold. Then think this will be very nice when it's done. Then think wow look how much I have spent I'll sale it when it's finished. Then back to nope that will be a huge hit I'll just keep. The back to happy.

Nate5.0 12-29-2015 09:15 AM

At least for me I just have money that could be much better used else where.

A boat makes me happy but a new biz, house, and wife brings a bigger smile. Once the new biz gets going (hopefully lol) then I can come back and with a boat I really want as the Sonic was never a boat I truly wanted.

Thats kind of where life is going. I want to really start looking at places and a few other things. I will def be back at some point. Even though I want bigger and faster, may even go over to (dont shoot me) a formula ss since I've always liked those boats. Still not a slug and has plenty of amenities. I'll figure it out, but in the meantime Im looking forward to getting into a new place.

I got out of boating for 7 years due to the crash the economy took in 08. I live on the lake so it was difficult but I had no choice. Bought a Top Gun 2 years ago and I thought it was all good and it was really. I wasn't aware of the problems with the headers and lost both motors the last time I took it out this summer. Both motors are at Young Performance being re-built right now to the tune of $38,000 with new headers. I got into the boat at a good price, but that just changed, I had forgotten how expensive this sport could be, but there isn't anything I enjoy more. Best of luck with your sale.I

You may be out some cash but Eddie will take care of you and you will have a great summer, 2016.

Yea that is what makes OSO so great, you get a lot of good info, Eddie was highly recommended, just wasn't planning on spending that kind of cash. It is what it is and as stupid as it sounds I still don't regret getting back into boating.

Are you putting cmi's back on or are you doing stainless marine headers?

I'm unsure what to go back with. Cmi's are suppose to be better now, and I like the look but who knows if they are or not? What is your take on it? All I do know is keep an eye on the cheep ass headers.

Any imput would be appreciated on headers.

tommymonza 01-05-2016 04:37 PM

Buy yourself a 18 foot donzi with a small block and don't do a thing to it other than use it and maintain it

It likes methadone for heroin addicts , cut you back a little at a time.

After 4 years you could throw the boat away because ownership would still be less than what your gas bill would have been for 4 years with the big twin boat.

Stainless Marine! Never worry about exhaust leaks again. I just threw my water sprinkler junk cmi in the trash... I didnt lose an engine over them but I was pulling them off once a month to pressure test.
