Who's running AV fuel in ther Cigs?
Easy choice after pumping out thick varnish after sitting in the fuel tank for 21 years, I decided I wanted a lasting octane that would hold for at least 6 months.
Not saying AV fuel won't turn to varnish (21 years of any fuel except maybe bourban/whisky would not age gracefully) back then in '95 my Mistress was runnin 91 octane no ethenole .............on the other hand, couldn't imagine what 21 yrs. of ethanole fuel left alone in the tank would look and smell like! |
Most normal people just fill up at a gas station not an airport
|
I buy a lot of AV (100LL) fuel for my airplane, wouldn't use it in my boat though, it still has lead and might screw up a few sensors especially O2 sensors. Most piston aircraft engines are about the most basic old school engine around, sacrifice performance for reliability.

ANY non ethanol fuel is fine for 6+ months and when treated with some Stabil will be fine for well over a year.

Have you tried http://www.pure-gas.org/ or another avenue to see if you can get non-ethanol?
I had a jet boat that had fiberglass tanks in it, and had to run 100LL in it's ZZ502 with a dual tunnel ram. The previous owner also ran AV gas. But it's kind of a PITA to deal with. Perhaps getting 'pure gas' and treating with Sta-Bil would be worthwhile. |

I'm pretty close to republic airport and unlike punta gorda where we needed clearance to fuel up here it's drive in drive out. |
How much is AV gas a gallon?

I even avoid the Stabil in my catalyzed 2011 Formula but usually only have it stored for 4 months. |
AV gas will foul sensors in newer stuff, it should run fine on the older non fuel injected stuff , the 100 LL octane rating is different than the street pump gas rating,
It has lead in it,....local to me the 100 LL is 4.00 usd per gallon, will need to fill it in cans or a tank, they wont fill it into cars or boats |
When we lived by the local airport, I ran AV gas all the time. It was about 1 dollar more a gal, so it was cheap insurance. I could pull the boat right up to the pump
and put it in....Pumps went way faster than the local auto gas station....All my stuff is old school....since we moved I run 91 and it doesn't run near as good....02 |
Lead, I hear that`s great for kids to get exposed to. Also great for adults and I wonder what percentage goes out the exhaust right into the water.
the fish, and ends up on your dinner plate. |

to pumped it out they also chemically cleaned the tank. ..............they recommened, for the future not to use Stabil, but to use "Gas-Shok" supposed to be the best ............anybody use "Gas-Shok" ? |

Lead is the least of your problems if you are eating that Chitty fish out of the Great Lakes. May want to think about the Mercury instead.

----Scippy,,,,Depending on location, and time of year, Av-Gas will have many different components. Make sure, if you do use it that you have an idea whats in there. My family owned a small airport up into the 90s and I tried Av-Gas on different occasions in a 427/425hp 66 Corvette and got wildly different performance (sometimes very bad).......Bill S

the fish, and ends up on your dinner plate. Even in low concentrations the lead can foul sensors designed for modern unleaded gasoline engines. |

just a side note about leaded fuels on O2 sensors , marine efi ( not sure about 1100's or 1350's ) don't use oxygen sensors .

About the only thing it will harm is if your have Cat in your exhaust. I have burned 1000 of gallons thru my fuel injected cars and snowmobiles never had an issue with sensor. On my sleds that the only sensor I use for tuning and have never had an issue with them, few time they will go weird but its usally because of the 2-stroke oil.
I run it in all my small engines and have never had to rebuild carbs after sitting thru the winter/summer like I did with the 91 we have here in MN As you may no its not cheap I wouldn't want to be filling up every weekend with it. As far as the lead part I can see it being any worse then living by a small airport with 100 of planes taking off daily and the "lead" getting into the air. |
Lead will kill cats, both kinds.

There are a few Catalyzed marine engines out there, anything from 2011 on right? |
My engines are 572 cu. in. efi's.........(the efi intakes are Arizona speed and marine to be exact) popular in the 90's and installed at that time.......I don't know anything about 02 sensors, but so far
the engines love av fuel! |
