Adding some side rails to the Myco, to make it more like a Kirktrail:)

What do the side rails provide? My Manning has them but on new trailer we are not adding them.

Is that a SyncroWave 210?

Looks cool, makes trailer stronger, provides a place to tie cover down. We tow, covered, with both boats

Miller 252, Miller 30A spool gun. For trailer work it is much faster

Added a second spare tire mount, and spare tire.

Took a little longer, I had the owner helping today, those bean counters get dirty once in a while.:)

Nice!

No worries of fatigue with the aluminum mount? I'm gonna build a bolt on spare tire mount for my painted aluminum myco, but I have nightmares of my spare tire and mount bouncing down teh highway after it smokes my boat. lol.

What are the dimensions of the tube and thicknesses?

When a Haitian piloted garbage truck hit my drive guard that Zero Patience built, it crushed the fender of the truck while the guard was unfazed. The original factory spare tire holder is welded to the frame and so is the ZP mount. It's NOT going anywhere.

I don't doubt that he builds stout stuff...I'm just saying that aluminum has a finite fatigue life, and a heavy spare hanging off of a cantilevered mount would be especially prone to a fatigue failure. I am all about empirical data....it clearly works, I'm just curious what the material sizes are to get the life out of it.

mrpickett357 05-26-2016 01:55 PM

The spare tire mount is 3 x 3 radiused edge tube, 1/4 inch wall. The rail is 2 x 2 radiused, 1/4 wall. ZP likes it strong.

Jet engines are heavy too.

Good point.

But Boeing isn't designing and building this, I am. lol.

Nice work. The rail really stiffens the trailer.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but I wanted to say thanks for inspiring me to finally build the spare tire mount for mine.

Whipped up a design in Creo.

Machined it and welded it together.

Powdercoated it at my brothers house
