Top Gun

Looking for 96-98 with cover girl cabin whats out there ?

jmackin 08-14-2016 08:43 AM

You had one yrs ago correct?

barron 08-14-2016 08:46 AM

Yes ,had a 97

thisistank 08-14-2016 09:11 AM

You see the completely redone one on Lipship site. Bad azz. Not cover girl but that's not hard to remedy.

Keyed Up? I owned it for a couple yrs after you i believe.I think Greg still has it, might want to get a hold of him and see if he wants to sell. Curious as to why you want to go back to that setup?

Sydwayz 08-14-2016 06:14 PM

I know and have been on the boat on Phil's site. It was owned by a boat dealer in Virginia, and maintained pristinely. It's also the same boat that was in the Hellcat commercial last year.

barron 08-14-2016 08:26 PM

Keyed up was a great boat never a problem just time to move on, Two Fountains later it's time for another Cigarette.Cover girl cabin works for me as I never use the cabin. I'm looking for 500's or 525's 92 octane is hard to find at the mariners here.So I'm again looking for turn key boat that has been well kept. How long did you kept (Keyed up} ?

barron 08-14-2016 08:33 PM

The boat at Phil's is nice but I think price wise I'd never see it again not that I don't take care of my boat but is's still a 93 boat.

owned for 2 yrs, was a great boat. Only issue was i blew one drive. Porpoise was a bit much sometimes and ride wasnt quite as good as others ive owned. Sold that and bought a 2000 full cabin straight bottom w/ 500 efis. Now have a 2000 TS w/ 600sc's.

barron 08-15-2016 05:15 AM

Your rite the boat did porpoise for me with a following sea. I think without the full cabin the ride suffers some. How does the ride compare from the straight bottom and the TS?

I dont really have enough seat time in my TS to really say for sure. I owned the full cabin boat twice and have alot of time in it. Time will tell but i definately prefer the straight bottom full cabin ride in Lake Erie at this point.

VortechSS 08-16-2016 08:45 AM

Is there a price range you're looking to stay in?

barron 08-16-2016 02:17 PM

That's why i'm staying within these year boats. I can pretty much know the price range.

CIG3 08-16-2016 03:07 PM

Did you check out the 2000 that is at Fast Boats. It's covergirl cabin, 500efi's. Could be had for around 85-89k

barron 08-17-2016 05:18 AM

That boat has been for sale for a long time I wonder why?

CIG3 08-17-2016 10:55 AM

Probably the paint. Not the prettiest.

barron 08-17-2016 05:52 PM

The price is up and down I don't know why.

zx14 08-21-2016 08:09 AM

Sorry for the noob question, but trying to learn more on cigs. What make a cover girl cabin?

Sydwayz 08-21-2016 08:44 PM

"Cover Girl" cabin means it's only 1/2 finished, the the forward half of the cabin is usually partitioned off at the bulkhead, and is raw finish "storage".
It's primary reasoning is to balance the step bottom boats better.

And the reason why the straight bottom gun with a cover girl cabin will porpoise. It's lighter but the CG gets messed up.

Oh, and I think anyone that's owned of had a lot of seat time on both a twin step and a straight gun (or 42 or 46 cig) wIll tell you the stepped boats runs smoother, handles big water just as good and runs flatter in calm water. Simply a more efficient hull all around. Nothing against the bad azznes of a straight hull though! ;)

zx14 08-22-2016 06:34 AM

So, if I want a full cabin, sounds like I should be looking at another brand?is there at least a port a potty in a cover girl?, do the seat backs of the couch cover the little hallway to make a bed?
(I gotta get my ass down to look at junkyard bill's), lol

Quinlan 08-22-2016 07:37 AM

Nobody buys a Cig for the cabin. If that is what you need - time to look elsewhere. Baja, Donzi, BT.
The only good thing about a cabin in the Cig is that all your Chit will be on the floor when you get to the next stop. Makes it easier to dig through ;) Or so the wife can change into her Itty Bitty polka dot Bikini.
And somewhere to keep the extra cooler.

Extended cover girl cabin has a bed in the front. All have porta potty I believe. Older straight bottoms have a full cabin and full walk in head.

And I don't want a cig for the cabin, however, the sales pitch to the wifey is the cabin, it's hard to convince her that when the going gets ruff, it seems that the cig is going to keep all its parts attached,,,lol.

thisistank 08-22-2016 01:38 PM

There's no bed in front of the zippered cig emblem at the front of a cover girl. Like said the extended cover girl has a bed up there. There's usually a Portapotty (not vacu flushed) under the cushion up front in the middle.

If you're looking for a good cabin the TS gun ain't it I'm afraid to say.
I like a good cabin too and have said forever that the straight gun and cafes of the 90's have the best useable cabin in a performance boat ever in my humble opinion.

Pretty sure bills TS gun is a cover girl cabin not extended.

A very happy medium between a Donzi and black thunder that kinda lose that low profile performance look due to a lot of head room and creature comforts in the cabin and a TS gun that don't have much cabin at all is an active thunder. Nice cabins, stepped hull and a very creature comfort esq cabin. bajas have a nice cabin but they're not stepped and if that's an option you should looks at a 90's gun or cafe.

The 38 scarab ha a nice cabin as well - fridge, enclosed head, bed, couch etc.

fandango 08-22-2016 09:48 PM

T/S Tiger with cover girl cabin. Phil turned me on to how to please the ladies with all the amenities. Pic are front V section with the zipper cover removed and hard door installed. Exact equal weight of items removed and items installed.

I love having a full cabin. Most trips out, i dont come home for days, and i'd rather spend the nights anchored out under the stars than in a hotel room. Of course i also wouldnt mind having steps and going 10-12 mph faster :)

zx14 08-23-2016 06:21 AM

Now that's a sweet setup

Crawled all over Bills yesterday, first time to even touch a TG. And of course there where 2 others right beside it., all I can say is WOW. them damn things are ocean liners compaired to my ittsy bittsy 26 Daytona. I unzipped the bulkhead cover to look up under the bow, like looking into the belly of a whale, you could have 3 family's living in there and never know,,,,,lol!

Tank , any AT years to stay away from? Active Thunder looks like a good choice, very simaler to A TG..

frickstyle 08-23-2016 07:18 AM

Fandango - That is a sweet setup.

I like the full cabin for the sleeping purposes. I never actually use the head, it's not even hooked up right now. As Phil said to me once (When he mentioned buying a Gladiator, my response was, want a full cabin) "All you guys from the Great Lakes want full cabins" It's also not 1000deg here like it is in Florida. Most guys up here with Top Guns overnight on their boats at the bars / islands.

ZX - AT is an excellent choice, very laid out and big headroom. I never liked the raised deck look, but it has grown on me with all the advantages, and they are fast capable boats. Other option is an Outerlimits, which would be my next boat if I could afford it.

1MOSES1 08-23-2016 11:27 AM

although it would be nice to own a TS, we love the cabin on our flat bottom boat. Let's face it, the two opposing couches on the TS is useless.

frickstyle 08-23-2016 11:42 AM

Anyone ever build a T/S with bigger power, boxes, and big drives like 6s, and then a full cabin? What were the results?

Funny you mention that...when we talk about what we would do with lotto winnings it's always build a custom ts top gun with mid 90's cabin!!! Best of both worlds

There is the Rough Rider with T/S and full cabin. It is my ULTIMATE Cig - owner BSZHBA on here owns it.

There was the one or two Guns with the 80's microwave lettering on the side that has the cabin door on the left and the full head down below, but I'm not sure if the front was finished, and I'm not sure either were 6's....

Phil did a few boats like that for people. It's a sweet set up.

I'm no expert on AT's so I'm not sure if there is. None that I've ever heard of though.

I can answer most AT questions if you can't get a hold of Pat (ActiveThunder), here on OSO.

cig28 08-25-2016 07:59 AM

Greg is a very good friend of mine and he does still owns it.

Agree 100% . Only reason I bought my Cig is because the we can sleep 5 comfortably. It`s like 2 queen sized beds and the V birth doesn`t come to a point where you`re bumping your heads, only performance boat I`ve seen where it`s squared off with storage up front.

Tinted the hatches, dark as a cave, turn the ac to 67*, I sleep like a baby.
