^^I will certainly be up there at some point, maybe a long weekend. I still get Kevin's fun run emails, those seem like a lot of fun and a way to meet new people. Save a slot for me in 2017, looking forward to it!

I had alot of fun at the Nashville run, I will plan to do 3 runs next year, if I can get engines to stick together for a whole season.....

MILD THUNDER 09-23-2016 01:52 PM

Frick, whats the issues with the engines not staying together ? You cant catch a break with that thing

frickstyle 09-23-2016 02:33 PM

I kept it off the internets out of respect.

I can describe it in private if you would like to know.

mmb 09-23-2016 02:55 PM

The number 6 boats I run with ride like there on a rail at 70+ mph. Nothing to do with getting away from bravo props lol

frickstyle 09-23-2016 03:03 PM

How much different is the #6 from the #5? In reality, that much???

Seems to be about the same weight, SSM6 possibly more? Lock-n-Load would probably have the best input here, as he did the conversion.

mmb 09-23-2016 03:07 PM

ZP has number 6's also!! Neither of there boats hop around they run nice and level at speeds.

Take the driving class... I bet 90% of your problems are the way you run it. Every problem I was having was the way I was running the boat before the class. I can tell you what changed in my driving habits if you want that made mine run straight as an arrow. Give me a call.

frickstyle 09-23-2016 03:15 PM

^Yes, I would appreciate that. And I do think/agree a lot of it is how I am driving the boat. BUT, somethings can be solved with setup so that you never have to "deal" with them.

Really? So a boat that has #5s on boxes, drives even with the bottom, running 18" props, will handle exactly the same as a TRS setup boat, running 14-15 inch props , with the propshafts several inches below the bottom?

I could tell you first hand my buddys 38 cig with 3A drives , no boxes, is an entirely different animal than icdedppls boat with 5s on boxes, especially in rough water.

Lololol

Ol

jmoore1225 09-23-2016 04:01 PM

Mild has he ever thought about taking the boxes off? Had this talk about the boxes on mine, would prolly gain some speed across the board. Just isn't worth it to me.

mmb 09-23-2016 04:23 PM

I will let you know when we swap to 6's Im not expecting any problems lolol

OL

mmb 09-23-2016 04:32 PM

Seeing how my boat is already rigged for number 5's maybe I should put them back on.... Im just a helmet change away.

MILD THUNDER 09-23-2016 04:51 PM

I thought your boat had 3's on it prior to the konrads ?

kreed 09-27-2016 10:58 AM

Props make a BIG difference in how the boat handles....just ask Brett from BBlades. He has solved alot of handling problems with rake and cup. I know people that have done many set up changes not knowing that a good prop guy could have solved the problem for 1/4 of the set up cost. Prop technology has come a looooong way.

Just checking in here and I see this thread. Porpoise? Never had it. All of you phuckers need to learn how to drive!!! :evilb:

Just playing with you all. Hope everyone is well. Loving our center console Cig (and retirement) down here in Heavens Waiting Room. :D

OldSchool 09-29-2016 01:25 PM

See, what porpoise?? ... :D

Disclaimer: This was with MDG 750's in it. The key (for me) with #6's was that you couldn't drive it like a Bravo boat and trim it as fast as you want. I had to just trim it a little bit, let it settle and then trim it a little more at speeds under 65-70. After a while, I got to the point where I could get it to the "sweet spot" a lot faster.....but there were many times where I had to trim it back down to get it to settle and start over. 10 seasons with that boat....and it took at least 4 to get a really good feel for it. Certainly had to drive it. Under 65-70, I had to drag the port side tab at neutral to make the boat run level. That's why my Bullet was my favorite boat ever. Put it in gear, hammer it and trim it to the moon. You could teach an 8 year old how to drive that boat in 5 minutes. Never needed any tabs.

You gotta miss the music of them big blocks, ain't always heavens waiting room either:evilb:

thisistank 09-29-2016 05:46 PM

I found, whether it was a cafe with bravos, top gun with 3a's or tiger with 6's, the key was to trim up a bit and drop a bit of tab to get the azz to raise slightly. You could actually feel the boat hit the sweet spot. It was level out with zero porpoise and loosen up, picking up speed.

Run it trimmed out too much or try to ring it out on flat water and they'll porpoise. They're not little lake boats. Any straight bottom cig will hop of you don't run it right. (Actually, I'd say it's the same with any big offshore straight hull period).

frickstyle 09-30-2016 07:28 AM

Do apaches, older Fountain 42s, or other older non-step boats do this? Is it the "rocker" bottom that Cigs have that contribute to this behavior?

jmoore1225 09-30-2016 08:04 AM

Frick see my post on page 4

offshoredrillin 09-30-2016 08:24 AM

My Tiger doesn't need much tab, but I'm turning props in and it helps carry the bow more, if its dead flat out i can run about 70 at nuetral trim and no tab... fastest Ive had it now is 91.6... still testing props and stuff but I should be able to touch 100 next season.

TELLefant 10-05-2016 10:19 AM

Hi Craig, you are my favorit Bullet-poster... ;-) We just dynoed two 454's with new heads, pistons, MEFI and closed lightening headers with 590 - 600hp @ 5400rpm for my '88 Bullet with Bravo 1. What prop would you recommend on fresh water and what speed could we +/- expect with this setup?

Damian

CIG3 10-05-2016 11:31 AM

Probably start with a 28 Bravo.

26 or 28 Bravo1's ...depending what you want out of them and how many rpm's that your power will turn them. ;) You'll never figure it out on paper, got to get some test props and run them. Once you get the base numbers, it'll be easy!!! Best of luck with everything!!

Speed numbers? I used to have somewhere in the 600HP per side numbers and I could turn 26s @ 5600. That'll put you in the low 80's every day

Craig

TELLefant 10-06-2016 02:34 PM

Thank you both! I also guess that's the right way to do. 80 would be quite fast for overhere because the lake is about 1450 above sea level and it's around 40° F outside right now... :-D Anyway I'll let you know after some run in hours. Thanks, Damian

1MOSES1 10-08-2016 08:08 AM

1994 flat bottom TG with 500efi's and bravo xr's. It runs 70-71 and 69 every day.

class6 10-08-2016 09:05 AM

I just read the post from the start. Some of you are saying to much weight up front, but then run tabs down? Can you or do you have room to install saddle tanks and transfer pumps to move fuel around. Way cheaper than HP and drive swaps. I still think bravo props are worth more in scrap.

I've seen several people mention "neutral trim" on OSO, does that mean trim at zero (all the way in) or...?

Having the drive prop shafts level with the bottom

Neutral trim is when the tabs and the drives are set parallel to the bottom of the boats running surface.

Just posted videos of a few flat bottom guns, none of them appeared to be porposing

thanks, good to know. i will check on the lift when I'm back home and winterizing.
