Cig 20s Anyone?
 

When were they made? How many were made? Did Don Aronow design them himself. I'm aware of three bottom configurations; Sharp keel, round keel and pad bottom. What year were each made? Are the pad bottom ones modified? Why do most have giant k-planes. Pics are poor but show the three keel types:

FYI, the second picture is actually a 24'. I can tell by the shape of the windshield. I can confirm the 24' has a sharp keel.

Rounded keels were the earlier versions. Sharp keels were developed in later years, guessing starting in early to mid-80's. The pad bottom versions likely came along in the 90's and were probably only on special order from Cig as they were not a normal production hull. The 380 K-planes are typically added during a full restoration.

Ah, I thought the "24" looked big but wasn't aware of that model. I talked with him on the water and he said it runs 65 with a modified 454. What years did they make 20s and 24s? How many were made?

The first version of the 24 was definitely a sharp keel. Had a teak deck, came out in 1972. Twin inline sixes or small blocks.

I *believe* that while the later versions (late 70s, early 80s) changed the deck and went to a single big block engine, the sharp keel remained. And then the molds went to Charlie McCarthy's company, Banana Boat. Where you can still buy one, or could a few years back at least.

I think the 19/20 had a very different but significant evolution over time.

I too would like to know how many 24's are out there. I started a thread a few years ago and I think we got to 11, but I'm guessing there are quite a few more. As for speed, mid 60s is right with a 454.

The early 20's are made from a Glastron hull.

So the Cig 24 evoloved into the Banana 24 and the Cig 20 was based on a Glastron. Thanks the kind of cool info I like. Someone on another site said that Don Aronow designed the Cig 20 but I'm not aware of Don actually "designing" any boats. It seems he just gave input as to what he was looking for.

What is considered early? Just for knowledge sake.... 70- ?

The ones that were built in the early seventies.

I doubt if the 20 design came from Art Carlson. Brownie needs to bless us with his wisdom.

Sonny told me that they used a Glastron hull, spread the sides out and pulled a mold.
I just got off the phone with Bob and he thinks it's more of a Donzi derivative. I have a picture of both fronts but can't post here. They are not quite the same. What does Brownie have to say?

Pretty sure it is a Walt Walters or Jim Wynn design with its deep sharp forefoot just like the 16-18 Donzis .

Anyone know what the deadrise is on a 20? Actual measurement not hearsay.
