#6 drive
What a pain in the ass #6s are to put back on. #%#}{||}#}, getting ready for Key West and had the seals replaced. 5 minutes to take off 1 hour to reinstall😩

It helps to trim slightly negative, bottom of tilt housing flush or just slightly in from the gimbal ring, positive trim makes it very difficult. Turn input shaft so the shaft crosses are vertical, hand over the top with drive low enough to put your hand over the top, the u-joint closest to the drive may almost be dragging in the tilt housing. Use fingers on top of cross to tip shaft until it will start in tube. When you feel it is in the tube, remove your hand, check with a flashlight if unsure. Rotate the propshaft while "gently" pushing in and lifting the drive to center, not high. If it is an nxt or other mechanical transmission, it helps to have it in gear to keep the transmission shaft from rotating, a little more "feel" with hydraulic unless it is a driveline so someone can hold the driveshaft from turning. With some experience it will seem much easier, although once in a while it seems like one will be a little more difficult. If so, I usually find I should step back and try again without being frustrated, it seems like then it will fall right in place!

We put the little red shop rags in the u-joints to hold it straight....then pull them out as it starts in....
On a side note...You are only putting back on the drives....I just pulled an engine to rebuild before KW.... See you there! |
We will be there also! Thankfully we only have an interior panel to repair before we go!!
