38' Cigarette Top Gun at FB
I am thinking about moving into a Cigarette. The one at Fast Boats looks good. But after looking at this forum I'm confused. Could the pros give the good and bad they see in this boat please. http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/37762
Thanks; Rick |
Nice looking Paint, been for sale for awhile. Problem is that it is a straight bottom. If I were going straight bottom, there are plenty out there cheaper, some with SSM and bigger power. This one is simple turn key power. it all depends on how you boat and what you want. I would say top speed is 68.

Plus no trailer. So it gets closer to 100k.

My 2000 full cabin straight bottom TG ran 72-74 w/ 500 efi's in the right conditions. I believe that 01 is an extended cover girl cabin which should also make it lighter. I'm guessing it will porpoise more also.

I guess 71-72 is possible in salt water, too.depends on setup and props

Cig started stepping the hulls in 2000 some with and some without, kind of odd this 01 is a straight bottom, maybe late production in 2000.........the 500's and XR's is a good combination in the TG, make sure you do a leak down and compression test on the engines

Ad is from August 2015. Saltwater, price a distraction???

Even if you hit 70, you will 100% be ringing the neck out of the 500EFI's. I would either by a SSM boat that was older and save some coin. or wait a year and save up for a TS. A TS with the 500s will run 82-83 and a 525 boat will run 85+. If you boat in rough water, you might consider an older top gun with 3s, 5s or 3A's. Even for the right money I would still buy a TRS boat. I did a Konrad Conversion on one, but the TRS's held up a long time with some pretty big power(700hp) 90 HRS, before pinion gear went. Lot of options out there when you are talking a 100k. 90's guns have the awesome cabin too if that matters to your boating needs.
