I thought it would be a good idea to freshen up the trannys . Good thing this what I found in the bellows on the port side . I have either a bad rear seal or I inadvertently over filled it at one point . Either way I have avoided a major disaster .

Oh! Nice soup!!!
Always better to check for small surprise in case instead of waiting and having the big surprise!

Check the front seal, I`ve had those pop out on me 4 times now.

Isn't that what you were fighting when I met up with you in Sandusky that day??

No, that was the carrier in the extension box seal Stupid boats

Thanks Dan , I will check . Going to do complete tear down and rebuild in any event . Going to replace bearings, clutch plates, seals and gaskets at a bear minimum.
I was planning this as my winter project along with other routine maintenance like rebuilding sea water pumps , fixing oil leaks , new plug wires etc.
Cheers RG.

Red lock tite on front seal when installing it holds to 500psi... But what would a former Cat Technician know you guys are geniuses!!

I use green lock tite (high strength retaining compound) on the back seal.

Or maybe the transmission in these boats are just bad and we can start a thread telling everyone that has a trans to buy a bravo boat!!!! OSO Tech is top notch!!

Anyway....
Rick, I use Locktite 648 on all the seals now, it`s the correct "retaining compound" for seals.
If in fact it is the front seal it`s not supposed to be flush with the case, there`s a tool that sets it where it`s supposed to be since there no "bottoming lip" . It can be a pain , order extras.

Thanks Dan good advice .
Going to shop tonight to pull the other motor . Then start the tear down process .
I actually built a receiver that inserts to an engine stand to accommodate the C72 / 71 tranny .
