Twin step #6 Top Guns (How many and where are they?)

I know LS JR just acquired one and I think there was a red one out of Jersey with Cobras in it. What others are out there? Also, what do you guys think the value difference is between a big power #6 TS gun and a 525/bravo TS gun?

JaayTeee 02-09-2017 12:25 PM

There was a dark blue (or maybe purple) one in the classifieds sometime in the last year....thought it was in Illinois

thisistank 02-09-2017 12:29 PM

There's another thread on this from a few years ago with pics. I think there's like 5 total.

302Sport 02-09-2017 12:29 PM

Oh yeah, forgot about that boat!! Wonder what happened to it?

Did it sell or the same owner? If I recall it was priced decently.

It was purchased and brought to Grand Haven last spring.

I believe there were four built from the factory with #6's. There was a 2000 T/S that had the newer style dash but older style (simple) paint, Hot For Teacher, Heavy Metal Thunder (purple boat), and an all yellow Top Gun that was built new by National Marine w/Cobra Power.

Morning Smoke (mostly all red) was a 525/XR boat that was converted to big power/#6's. As Tank said, five all together.

I think the simple paint one ending up here as a stripped haul, was refitted with bravos and painted by mitcher t. Just sold again maybe last year

302Sport 02-09-2017 06:19 PM

I wonder where the yellow boat ended up, seems to be the only one not really accounted for??

If you are referring to the 1992 painted by Visual Imagination the last count I had it was at or around LOTO.

That one is not a Twin Step. Nice boat though...

thisistank 02-09-2017 09:27 PM

The original #6 TS was painted with checkers as I recall. It was stripped and converted back to an XR boat, most likely because the TS's aren't really set up for #6's CG wise. It's easy to screw them up. Hot for teacher, Heavy Metal Thunder, The yellow that may have spun or rolled (it was that one or the 39 w/6's that looked just like it basically), and then there was Joes red boat converted from XR's with Cobras as Bobby said. Joe was selling it for a long time, don't know where it ever ended up.

There was also 5-6 39's with 6s built.

Wasn't this a 6 boat ?

No, that's Perfect Storm. You may be confused because it was owned by Greek Lightning that ordered Heavy Metal Thunder new from Cig with 6's. Perfect Storm burned to the ground in LOTO around 07 in a warehouse fire.

Quinlan 02-10-2017 06:06 AM

So how many Arnsons?

There is a 2nd TS in Grand Haven with 6's, but it is not a factory built boat. Precision Power Offshore put it together. Runs pretty darn good with tunnel ram 810's.I have the 3a's that gave off the boat on my hot rod.

I'm running a 39 with Arnesons, and have seen one or two 38's on youtube (I thought one was in Russia?)

Donziben 02-10-2017 10:40 AM

The red one, (morning smoke) is here at LOTO. It now has Merc 700's in it.

That's a really nice setup!! #6's (No garbage NXT Trannies) and 700's in a TS Gun...

Do the Arnesons really stick out much more than a #6 or NXT Top Gun? If so why not cover them when swimming? Also - Why do you say they do not run well in rough water? Do the lose bite running the surface? I'd think you'd be much better off w/them instead of XR's. You could very well be idling w/XR's if they have some hours on them.

The TG in the pics looks good. Wonder how performance numbers turned out.

Unlimited jd 02-10-2017 07:33 PM

It's a joke, seems to be a common misconception and some preach it like they have actually had any experience.

As far as swimming they do stick out further the xr's that were on the boat. I have the prop guards which are great for protection and I have spent few hours sitting on them. When a group is around I have put prop covers on them.

The boat was in for bigger power and the drives to be installed last winter. Builder got off track and the 525's went back in to use the boat. I was spinning a 32 bravo prop at 84 mph with XR drives. With the wrong pitched props I was bumping revlimiters at 5600 only seeing 89 and still room in the sticks. I know there was more mph there just bought the wrong props for that set up.

New power is getting close at Sterling and then the prop game begins. Rough water not an issue....

Longer than a #6? I know a Bravo on a Box is 4" shorter than what is on this Cigarette. Probably very similar to a SSM#6

As for Swimming, we have a prop guard as shown in the photos. You can still kick the hell out of the propeller but you really cannot fall onto the top of the propeller from above with the guards on.

Rough water, that's a joke as some who as "unlimited jd" stated talk **** and have actually never been on a boat with Arnesons and probably most of them have never seen one in person. But as the democrats have proven, they have a right to their opinion right or wrong.:D

Truth is a Bravo (typical modern boat) has a the prop shaft about 3-4" below the keel. Meaning that any wave grater than 4" will cause the propeller to be out of the water. Kinda ridiculous when you think about that way isn't it.

The Arnesons for some reason, remain hooked up in the rough water better, strike that, far better than a Bravo does/can. So no worries about rough water as even Greg stated with his Cigarette.

I tried to lay on the sarcasm...... sorry. Personally I would run alphas that way I could keep up with "Pimp of the Nation"

Yes, I have the purple boat. Word was the boat was a handful. Truth, scary ride. We put 2 inch spacers on the lowers and took 1/2" off the diameter of the props. The boat is now bad azz and on rails.

frickstyle 02-18-2017 09:45 AM

^^^Incredible what small changes do.

twinscrews 03-08-2017 07:22 AM

A friend of my ordered the purple boat new, didn't keep it long.

I learned recently that the 2000 T/S that was built with #6's was not changed to bravos because of the way the boat ran, but the guy who bought it with no power or drives had smaller power/bravos to put in.

Unlimited jd 03-08-2017 07:45 PM

Jason told me yours runs pretty well. Bad ass ride. Hope I get a chance to get down there and see it.

He had a 35 fountain that caught fire, he used the engines and drives off of it when he bought that hull gutted
