Ok,
I got this 28SS a few years ago and posted here (28SS last one) to see if I could find out a little more info about it. Well,,,, I knew when I got the boat it was taking on water below the gimbal housing on the port side. We all thought the transom might be rotted.
So the project has started. It showed that one of the exhaust ports was leaking. By the time we took it apart, the wood was rotted all the way below both drives.

You can see the rot below port drive. Stringers were also rotted so we had to get the top cut off, and carve out the rot then fill in with resin.

Got the transom done, and they went ahead and fixed a few issues with the gelcoat on my floor too. We also got rid of that dark grey and made white with blue splatter. Now I have to put it all back togther.

We removed all the rotted wood down to the fiberglass. You can see we marked the rotted stringers with blue paint.

Great work! That looks all to familiar.

Great work, hope I never have to do it to mine. Was yours originally powered by twin 454"s too?

Looking good.I love the 28SS. I bought my 79 back from my buddy after he abused it for two years, I regretted selling it to him but luck was on my side and he needed some dough so the deal was if it ever got sold it came back to me.
It heads into fiberglass 2nd week in October to made to look like it rolled off the showroom floor in 79.
Mine is all original and I plan on keeping it that way, well other then external steering and different controls.

Nice to meet another 1979 28SS owner, my SS# is 2828508-79 all original, Beidge with blue and stripes, around 300 hours, factory twin 454's with TRS. Only thing not original is the triple freight train horns on the deck, last owner named it Fast Freight, he was a railroad VIP
