Diesel TG - anywhere? Why not?

I am interested to find out what TG´s are out there with Diesel power.
Or whether any Diesel powered TG´s have been repowered with gas engines and if so why?

Gas prices and difficulty to obtain good quality Mercruiser service in Europe could make Diesel power an option, if one can refrain a bit from the "Need for Speed" ... :)

There seem to be hardly any Diesel powered TG out there, and almost nothing is written about that.

Is it just not an option? Why not? Arent Diesel engines supposed to be more durable and less finicky?

I am reall curious about that .... does anybody have any experience? Opinion?

I'd say historically the lack of reliable marine diesels that perform anything near respectable for an offshore boat have hindered this type of project. Now, the reliability and performance may be obtainable but the newer gas motor options, from what I've been told, can meet the strict European requirements a lot easier than the older stuff. So to transition to diesel is not only costly, it's unnecessary.

There was a 41' cigarette for sale in Detroit CL a couple months back that had cat 3208's in it, stated as a factory diesel boat. I think it was a late 80's / early 90's??

I saw a diesel Top Gun a few weeks ago on Instagram. Overseas boat, not sure which country however.
