'81 Squadron XII
This is me as a young kid in the 6th grade (I am now 25), standing next to one of my favorite boats in the marina....little would I know I would own the thing today! Sometimes I still think I am dreaming, and I have to walk outside and go "holy sh!t"....
https://vgy.me/5wj4Ps.jpg The boat is a 1981 Cigarette Squadron XII 39ft. It was powered with 509ci 725hp MRD motors with blowers, and speedmaster #3s... Today, she sits without power. But my main goal is going to be getting her back on the water. Motors and drives will happen, but not this season, or next. This will take a few years of hard work and dedication but sh!t, im looking forward to this :) I'll most likely be making a thread to document my progress in the "Restorations and Upgrades" section, but here are a few photos... https://vgy.me/5PDJNS.jpg https://vgy.me/1KQh4j.jpg https://vgy.me/442fSI.jpg https://vgy.me/qN9UV9.jpg |
Cool story, @ 25yo we are all so glad you didn't buy a wake board boat.

Congrats on the purchase. Good to see younger people involved with classic offshore boats, take your time and get things right the first time. Might want to think about painting that trailer, some Cig guys might take offense to the 'grafitti'. :) RR |

Yep, thats it
Love the running shot of her, when do you think it was taken?........."Love the Squadron X11 very capable ocean runner!".....Good luck and post up when the restoration begins! |
What kind of power do you plan on putting in it? |
Let it thoroughly dry and get a cover for it. Did you get the tree sap off? Engines and drives won't be cheap but they show up here for reasonable price. Congrats.

So tell us a bit more......when was the boat last intact and running? .......present state (to a certain degree) seems she was parted out of engines etc;... did she fall into disrepair well before you got her?

As far as I know it was taken care of, but still with any old boat it will need work. The running shots of the boat were taken back in 04 at the NPBA Glen Cove Poker Run. |

Good to see you back around Sam. You were gone for a while. Cool to see you buy this boat. I remember you posting about it back when you were 16 or so. Keep us posted man. Don't get discouraged, you have a lot of work cut out for yourself but I see a GANG of potential in that boat! Cool ride for sure.

Does anyone have any old sales brochures, original specs or info on these boats? I am looking for "historical" info on these boats..a quick search on OSO brought up some old threads with my boat mentioned, but nothing else.

Congrats on getting your dream boat! Cant wait to see the resto process!!

Cool story, especially being a younger guy, that makes it cooler. Look forward to seeing the progress on your dream boat.

Congrats Sam! It's great to have you back. I look forward to following your progress on the restoration. Hopefully some of these IO guys can help you with parts to get her on the water without to much $$$$$$. I would recommend getting in touch with Mike Mello AKA Sick Stinger is always parting something out. Take care. B

Congrats Sam! You have come a long way son! Happy to see you land that boat. I remember you posting pics of it long ago when you joined. Can’t wait to watch this thing come together.. jr. |
Found out some neat history on my boat today! It used to be all white with a red stripe and black V-shaped windscreen. Was painted to the color you see now. A custom mold was built for the new fiberglass fairing, whole interior was redone, stuff on the deck was taken off and replaced with newer style pop up cleats etc. Original motors were 454's with TRS drives. Later on down the road, the MRD blower motors were added along with the raised rear section of the hatches to allow room since these motors were tall. The TRS were swapped out and holes filled in and raised for the speedy 3s..
Here is an older picture before the new seats were added and motors. https://vgy.me/hj3fG0.jpg |
