speed from a twin step Top Gun?

What is the Top Speed from a twin step Top Gun with HP-500's and 575's. And how about speeds at 3000, 3500, 4000 RPM for each engine.

Thanks, Kirk

The best speed I have heard on a TS TG with 500 EFI's and ITS is 85. Tres Martin dialed the boat in a Lake X. I think with 575's you should be at 90?

I saw a listing on national marine site that said a 2003 35 TS w/525 efi's and ITS was running 88.

My 2001 Playboy w/500EFI's wil run about 82.4 in freshwater with a little chop. My 35 is for sale if you are looking for a very nice used Cig!

If I remember correctly, I thought Spine Tickler was getting around 91-92 out of his TS TG with 575's.

Why would the 38 be faster than the 35 with same power (85mph vs 82.4) Have the hulls changed any since 2001?

Are the 38's staggered and can you get the 35's staggered?

I have seen 78 on gps on our 2001 TG TS with 500 EFI's and XR's full of fuel with 5 on board (I have not had the chance to run the boat light yet).

I have been having an rpm problem with the port motor though which I know is costing me a least a couple miles an hour. It is down from 300-400 rpm when compared to the other motor (the problem is being taken care of). I would say with a lighter load and the engines both working properly low to mid 80's should be possible.

What about whippled 500's? I am thinking about going with the new Whipple setup which makes about 750 hp and 800 ft lbs of torque when the warranties are up. have been wondering how much speed I will pick up.

dreamboater 11-01-2002 03:34 PM

My dad has a 35 twin step fountain 500efi's and whipples the boat ran about 84mph on gps w/stock power, after the whipples the boat ran 100.2 on gps (mid summer the boat ran 98.6) The speed increase is about as good as the acceleration pickup because of the flat torque curve however this setup is also hard on drives. He had to change to imco extreme's w/1.34 gears after blowing through the bravos. You could probably expect the same speed increase with your boat good luck.

Those speeds would be nice, thanks for the info.

Troutly, I would agree it was actually just a question but I would be into hearing some info on what makes the 38 faster than the 35 if that is really true. It is a lot easier when comparing different boat manufacturers but to say a 35 cigarette is slower than a 38 cigarette is pretty interesting, unless like I asked the motors are staggered or the wetted surface is different, and I am sure there is much more that goes into that. Really I was just curious not trying to say someone is not telling the truth.
