35 Playboy HIN Question
Can someone verify that this HIN from a 35 Cigarette is a playboy edition?
The HIN was hard to read but here's what we could decipher from it. CRTUSPO1E102 Did Cigarette only make 35 Playboys in 02? Thanks for the help |
My memories a bit foggy but there was only like 5 official playboys made (with licensing through playboy and the bunny logo all over the boats I want to say two blacks, two blues and a white) And a total of like 12 or so total 35 twin step mystique / playboy / TS 35’s made. Best bet is if you show photos of the boat you’re referring to people could confirm on here if it’s an original playboy.

Thanks Tank
I do not have any photos of the boat at this point, but I did see it in person. It is an 02 with all original crazy splash graphics. Owner claims it is a playboy, but I was just trying to verify this through the HIN number. I read on NADA guides that the only 35 that Cigarette made in 2002 was a playboy edition. What's your thoughts? |

Sorry I have to correct my statement. The others weren’t mystiques those are the 30’s. The other 35 TS were dubbed mistresses. Bobby text me and scolded me. :D ;)

hull number one was built with 500EFI’s. It was black with playboy graphics and all the transom hardware and motors were powder coated silver. It also had mahogany floors and all vessels and handles were polished. It was / is absolutely beautiful. So classy. It was used as the PR boat and was campaigned with the 3 playboy models on runs and stuff.

Very helpful but it seems you found a Unicorn or the # are off |
Tank,
Yes that is the boat that I am considering, but would need to be updated. Yes F-2 Speedy the numbers could be a bit wrong because they were very hard to read. |
Having a hard time finding specs on the 35. Is the 38 a deeper freeboard than a 35?
|
That’s not boat #1 for sure.
the 35’s were just shortened 38’s. Freeboard is basically the same as a TS gun. this was hull 1 https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...0c700904c.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...fd16c3f3b.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...14b9679da.jpeg |

Maybe H2otoie (Dan) will chime in. He can give you some first hand input. He had a really nice playboy (and a newer TS gun). |
Thanks for the info.
Old timer owns this boat since day 1. Says it runs mid to upper 80s with 525s. Sound about right? |
I've owned a '98 38, a couple newer 39s, and now a new GTS. Just think this would be a good entry boat for my kids. Been around boats their whole lives and think it would be a good sound entry boat.

The Playboy is an awesome boat but different than a 38 in only a few aspects,
Freeboard is the same, Cockpit is identical as is the engine compartment fuel tanks are smaller, 35 gets on plane way easier than a 38 35 doesn't have a cleat half way up the deck like a 38 35 doesn't have a notch in transom like 38 only foot and a half difference since a 35 is almost 36' long and 38 isn't quite 38' Playboys came with 500's not 525's All 35 in 01's and 02's were called playboys( 12 total) of which a couple have been destroyed, in 03 they were called a Mistress My playboy ran very flat and handled great but the ride of my 08 38 was better ( 38 also had single belly tank) Since its a twin step it needs to be treated with more care than driving you 98 38 since it will spin out like all the newer boats with 500's it would do 84 in the right conditions, low fuel, only two people etc, 80 all day long |
Appreciate the info very helpful.
This boat originally had 500s, but he had 525s installed 130 hours ago. Doesn't seem to be abused just totally outdated. What do you think top end is with 525s? |

Does anyone know the story on this 35 that has been listed forever it seems on yachtword over in FL? I was talking with LS about it and I hit the broker up a few times but he never got any info to me on it. Last email was they were getting new pix and he would send them along but that was just after the Miami show. Surprised nobody has mentioned it?

https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/200...tiger-3516174/ The fact that the clowns at yachtworld have it listed as a Tiger (42') , tells me that they don't know what's going on to start with. If it is actually an 03, then I would say it is one of the twin step mistresses after the agreement ran out with Playboy. Only a handful of the Mistresses were made. Problem with the 35 vs the 38 was the cost was so ridiculously close, everyone wanted the 2'' 6" that the Gun had going for it over the 35'. So Cigarette stopped making them, wasn't cost effective. |
Here's a shot of mine before I put it in storage last year.

Yes, total clowns at YW. The ad said fresh interior (or something) and when I asked him for a pic of the HIN and others he said it was just done getting interior? The side of the boat that I assume whoever owns has "35 Tiger" written where you would normally see the 35 or 38 Top Gun etc. logo's for some odd reason. I hit the guy up twice for info on it but one time was he was just getting out of the Miami show and would get me some, then I hit him up again a few weeks later and he said it was just being taken out for fresh pix after the interior but never got anything. You don't see a lot of 35's so figured I'd throw this one in the mix since there is a topic on them.

Maybe I'm wrong (it happens :D )… but if that is the correct HIN, it looks like it says hull #01, E1 would mean it was built in May of 2001 and was a 2002 model.
|
I looked at this boat today. It was on a lift and right next to it was T/S Gun. As far as freeboard, I was curious myself, so I measured it. At the windshield, it was identical. At the mid cleat, it was a little less than 2 inches lower and at the transom, a full 3 inches lower (rub rail to bottom). Its funny how much bigger the 38 looks, for some reason.

Here's a quote from Chris @ Oceanperf, ( He knows a thing or two about Cig's ) HIN's from Cig have had production #'s for yrs for those who dont think so.
CRT38104L485 for example. Gigarette 38 length, 104 production number, L 12th month so its December, The numeral 4, 1984 year built, 85 model year. So that is the 104th 38 Cig manufactured in December of 1984 and is deemed a 1985 model. Newer cigs start w UST #'s |
