Zul 700s. Anyone recognize these motors
anyone recognize these motors trying to find out the history/ build info on them
thanks. By looking at the paint I’d say they may have been in a gladiator https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...082cb9b0b.jpeg |
I don’t remember Zul building 700 with blowers but I can be wrong

i agree. With the paint on the flame arrestor it leads me to believe they came out of a gladiator, just trying to track where these motors came from and if they are actually zuls, or were they 700 tunnel rams and someone put a blower on them ect

I've seen SC900's but even an old thread has tunnels on everything 700hp and under
https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...ner-oso-2.html |
Richie had a few diff combos for hitting his hp numbers, his tunnel rams were all higher compressions, but most of his blown motors for longevity were a little higher compression and lower 4-5 lb boost.. made them very reliable and still hit the numbers he wanted

I would tend to think someone just reused the air filter covers
kinda my thoughts
Are the valve covers paint matched to the cleaner,
whole motors black incuding the vc which is another red flag to me that its not a zul motor
Never mind then LOL
the pic that i posted was from a 42x
these motors are in a 42x now and said to be zul 700s looking at the paint scheme on the arrestors they look to be like most of the glads that had zuls was the only reason i said glad, |

Yea. Looking at one with these motors in it and trying to see what they actually are. I don’t believe they are zuls.

I may be off base but one of the first things I noticed about the Zul engines ( and I liked) was the tunnel rams - same as the mid/late 80's 700 ( or were they 750hp?) Merc racing engines. They just stand out from a B&M SC |
Thanks. Everyone seems to have the same opinion as me. I will see what’s up with them when I look at the boat next week.
Is this an NXT boat ?
No it’s a bravo Xr ITS boat
They look like Gary’s engines in his 42x.

they are. I’m going up to his place next week to look at it. And just looking for where the motors came from since his boat was a 525 whipple boat originally. |
That 42x that TNT has is sweet! I believe I saw it in key West poker run weekend.
Just an FYI. I'm not saying the engines are or are not built by Zul. Yes. when he was building all the power for Lip-Ship they were professionally painted matching the boat. But, judging now if the engines are built by Rich strictly by color or lack of paperwork is useless! I have engines built by Rich. Probably done originally a decade ago. Have been freshened a couple of times since including this past summer. My engines are black with valve covers and arrestors as they came out of the box. Not one piece of paperwork this last time. Rich said he did this and that you owe me "X" I said "here ya' go, Zul you are the man, thanks". That was it end, of story. Haha, the guy is still the best.
No I agree. I’m just trying to track the linieage of the motors. As far as I know Ritchie dident do 700 blower motors. If the motor started life as a tunnel ram na motor that someone rebuilt and dropped compression and swapped cams and dropped the blower on it is fine but that’s not a zul motor in my opinion if Ritchie dident do it. It won’t turn me off from the boat just like to know the facts
What did Gary say? He’s a straight shooter. I’ve known him for 20 years. I do understand it’s good to do some due diligence though.
garys been straight with me, and i have no issues with him or the boat, he said we can call the guy he got them from when i got there
just doing my homework, |
