that deck hatch lol

Yes it’s a skater hull and deck with cig cockpit and rigging

thisistank 03-04-2021 05:06 PM

Personally I think It really should be stripped of the cigarette logos. Not a Cigarette in the slightest.

Skater did the same thing years ago with a couple of race boats. The early Banker and Dramamine were Fountain hulls built by Skater with some changes. It appears many companies figured Skater could build a faster hull. I guess you can't argue with success, they are fast. Baja also had a Skater project as well..

bigfarmer 03-04-2021 06:02 PM

The only way you would get me to ever buy another Cigarette..

You're referring to collaborations between Reggie and Pete where Reggie has Pete lay up Fountains in epoxy instead of glass (Fountain boats still). Skip had Pete lay up the kilo boat but the bottom was a Cig or at least it wasn't a skater bottom I should say. The Baja deal was Baja contracting Pete to design a stepped vee for them when they were thinking of trying out stepped hulls. When the deal fell through It actually became the Superman Skater Vee. Few other skater vees were built (not too many though) and their success can be debated but we don't need to get into that. Point is, these are all factory partner deals. The Skaterette was commissioned by the owner originally through Skater as a 39' Skater and then taken to Cigarette for interior and motor rigging. It's still ALL SKATER. If someone takes their Baja to Skater to have them redo the interior and re-rig the power should it be rebranded as a Skater? I think not. LOL

It's just my opinion but it shouldn't be labelled as a Cigarette....It's not. Not to mention there's nothing wrong with calling it what it is. Not like Skater isn't a very well respected company. Though, I'd take a Cig vee over a skater vee all day.

speicher lane 03-04-2021 06:54 PM

Reggie needed Pete's expertise with the layups as there was a short period where the race courses were littered with sizable chunks of laminates falling off the Fountains during a race as Fountain pushed for lighter and lighter hulls.

To me the boat in question is definitely a 399, which is weird, as Tank stated, to identify it anything but a Skater.

Nigel Hook ran a 399 Lucas Oil boat in the mid/late 2000's (as did a few others) so there is definitely no shame in having the Skater V's

speicher lane 03-04-2021 07:03 PM

Tyson did the Bermuda challenge in the 399 as well (Diesel / Arnesons)

Pleasure 399 i believe Hull# 1 (Orange) and Baha Skater (red) mentioned earlier

Do they list it under a Skater or a Cigarette?

I know, I was thinking the same thing. That hatch is hideous, your eye goes right to it, and not in a good way.

Incoming one of a kind 2008 39 Cigarette/ Skater powered by 2013 Twin 1350 Mercs with M8 drives. Only 60 fresh water hrs and absolute pristine condition. This boat was built as a collaboration between Cigarette and Skater. Very very Fast!
Full wrap windshield, Full Cabin, Custom Tri axle Skater trailer . Absolutely NO expense spared.
Offered exclusively by FBMG

Asking $389,000

speicher lane 03-05-2021 06:52 AM

Well, as normal business, Skater sends their interior work out to Appearance Products - this one went to Cig for the full monte.

Interesting boat/concept - has anyone put 1350's in a 38 or 39 Top Gun?

Sydwayz 03-05-2021 07:47 AM

I really like the one off boats, as I like uniqueness.

The yellow and orange one with the twin canopies is is gorgeous.

I think it’s just the paint, but I definitely cannot get into the “Skaterette”.

bigredbaja 03-05-2021 08:34 AM

That orange 388 V-Rod Skater is my favorite boat of all time, actually got to see in in person years ago and talk to the owner before it was sold and went to Louisiana. It popped up for sale on here last year last post I saw was $275k not sure if it ever sold.

I agree there is no shame is calling it what it is, at the end of the day the HIN number tells the story, if it doesn't start with CRT it is just a wanna be.

I just can’t get past the wraparound windshield and a Cigarette dash. It really should get a skater interior and I feel like the boat would just be better looking.

offshoredrillin 03-05-2021 09:59 AM

i think it needs to be a sit down boat... as bill pyburn said once "freeboard is over rated"

speicher lane 03-05-2021 11:44 AM

other than the Skaterette, the Baha and the 478, they were all sit-downs - even the 488 Dragon lady

Bruce Gibson's old boat. RIP :(

caseyh 03-05-2021 07:09 PM

I like hard core offshore Vs. no windshields just s farings. But at the same time a nicely done windshield looks great for a sit down boat. Have no clue why cig never offered that or even the really cut down Fountain windshields for a stand up boat looked good.

For the record the 399 skater v dash looks like crap to me if you have ever sat in one. The saker/cig looks way better.

1MOSES1 03-05-2021 07:12 PM

Never mind the dash, windshield, or engine hatch...who slapped the $10 deck hatch on? That looks horrid.

speicher lane 03-09-2021 09:09 AM

Randy has posted the Skaterette for sale @ FB.
https://www.offshoreonly.com/classif...nd-o79497.html

How wide is the 399 Skater?

The Skaterette pics of the Cig interior in the 399 leaves a walking area almost twice as wide as the cig provides (judging by the porta) and in the engine bay, both engines appear as full access on both sides of the staggered pair.

Is there a back story? I figured it's just a brokerage listing but could be wrong.....
