Cigarette Bullet: Hollowpoint
As mentioned in another thread, the torch has been passed and I’m now officially a member of the club!
Not a lot to say yet other than there’s a good amount of work in front of me. But with patience and dollars (especially once the 311 sells), she’s going to be in some pretty good shape. She hasn’t been on the water since the port engine dropped a valve seat back in 2017. The port engine is new, and the starboard engine was refreshed at the same time. Conservatively dyno’d at Hollowpoint’s (Wayne’s) request - 650 HP at 5500 and 636 TQ at 5000 (with a super-flat 600+ torque curve through the entire rev range). I had contemplated swapping my 509s in place of the blown 468s but I think I’ll leave them be. And with the 4.5” pipes, they sound sweet! I don’t think the Bravos will be too happy for long. This is what I know she’ll need to be seaworthy:
The above will get the Bullet back on the water. From there I’ll be looking at updates to the cockpit as well as paint. A new sound system is also a must! Just as she was when Wayne got her, she’ll be a running project boat. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d1b15882b.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...42db4e59d.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...edd99c589.jpeg As stuff gets done, I’ll try to keep this thread updated. |
Congrats Tom, welcome to the family......:ernaehrung004:

I really love the red, just hot as hell! Thinking maybe a change to the consoles (silver) or maybe the entire cockpit (white consoles, sides, floor). So many options. Wayne had thought about white tops sides with red boot striping. But she’s been red all her life - might just keep her that way. I need to respray a paint repair on the port side so who knows what might happen. |

Congrats on the new boat! I had a bullet many years ago and loved it. It handled Lake Michigan excellent for its size.

Congrats! Love the tow rig.

I have a 2500 Suburban with an 8.1L and 4.10s. |
Hoping to get some work done this weekend...
We had some binding with the steering rams; enough to break a couple of studs. I guess some measurements were off when we installed the rams back in 2021. The rams are installed on the outside, but I'm going to move them to the inside along with all the plumbing. I'll then fill the leftover holes with dowels and epoxy. I'll probably yank the drive and tab indicator cables out while I'm back there - they're all shot. I've also got a K-plane that's floppy. Probably a bad seal. These have the old style pins that are notorious for not wanting to come out so I may just look for a good used set - maybe go with longer since I'm leaning on replacing. I also need to give the 311 some love. I haven't really touched it in a month. |
Tom posted some pics when he picked Hollowpoint up. Not her finest hours since it hadn't been washed in a couple of years! Here's a couple when she looked a bit better!

She’s alive!
I took advantage of the long weekend to get the Hollowpoint’s fuel system straightened out. Originally, we used some push-lock hose from Jegs that wasn’t quite up to the task. I replaced all of that with 8AN from the tank to the pumps. I also drilled through the Merc fuel filter housings to improve volume and accept 3/8 NPT fittings. Took a while to get the fuel system filled, but once we had fuel, she lit off immediately.
