04 Top gun wiring question
Having a bit of an issue with the nav lights, got it all working except for the rear light anyone know where it wires into the rest of the system?
i know the light itself works really not looking forward to running a new wire all the way back if i don't have to. |
I had the same problem on my Bullet. It turned out the copper wire was broken inside the insulation about 5" from the light. I had the dash out so I knew there was power from the switch. I had cut the wire anyway and was planning to install a weather pack connector when I found out it had no power. I started probing through the insulation with a test light and found the bad spot. I spliced in three feet of wire to ensure I found good copper. Funny how bad copper looks inside an insulator after 30 years on a boat.
The weather pack connector allows me to remove the light base without cutting wires in the future. The basic switch is wired as below but has extra terminals if backlit https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...63b73a9bf1.jpg |
Unless Cig did something like splice it into the harness somewhere i'd bet to say it goes straight to the back of the switch at the dash. Should be Gray (sometimes with a colored tracer as ive see on a few different mfg's) Look at the wires at the light and see if you can find corresponding wire at switch or near it if it happened to get unhooked. Could be a bad ground for the light too...

Figured it out, someone had connected the white wire going to the light to another white wire that was ground, all good now. figuring out what has gone on in the last 20 years can be a challenge sometimes, plus a bad terminal on the switch didn't help matters, i just purchased as Power probe a few weeks ago, that thing probably saved me hours of headaches, And thanks Tank for the fuzzy wiring diagram you sent me, That got me looking in the right direction,
