425/454’s too mild for 38 Top Gun?

I’ve been looking for a 1993 38 TG that has I believe 425/454 carburated Mercruisers. What are they 400 hp a piece? Is that too little? I’m not looking for crazy speeds, but it should get on a plane fast and shouldn’t feel underpowered. The seller said top speed were somewhere around 60 mph. Is that believable?

Thanks!

around 60 with that power? Yeah i can see that. Those boats are heavy...your looking at 10K lbs easy.
My old 30' Scarab supposedly weighed around 6400 according to the factory specs....i weighed it once at a truck stop and it was closer to 8K....with healthy mid 450hp BBC's i got her up into the low 70's when i finally got it propped right.
You'll just have to test drive it to see how it feels with the current power.

Rode in one with that setup years ago. It was the TRS and 420 HP Mercruisers. It ran 61 all open. So it is possible. That was in Florida in the Salt.

Maybe he's looking at the wishometer....not GPS... 60 dont think so.......I had two 93's one glass and the other Kevlar, 500 EFI high 60's might touch 70 on the best day

TRS have Transmission so you loose 1-3 MPH. They were also mounted very conservatively . Bravo setup would be a couple miles per hour faster, maybe 63. Bravo boat has more prop selection. Of course it all depends on how healthy the power actually is.

The one I rode in also was spinning the props in which was a speed benefit. Just some things to think about

We’re in Europe so he said 95 kmph which translates to 59 mph. Sounds about right then. Might be a little low. Have to test drive.

I believe those numbers. Our cafe with 496’s ran 65. Gun is a more efficient hull.

Ill send you a case of Coors light if that thing runs 60 gps...............:lolhit:

So what would cruise be ? 40mph?
That`s kinda gayer than AIDS in a Top Gun
