GUN or Tiger
What's perfered a late model TS Gun or a non TS Tiger. I been looking at Guns,,,but the Tigers,,,have some great deals going around. Does anyone...really know the differences...and characteristics of the two?

The Tiger T/S seemed to run better with average power. Like 575's.
The straight bottom Tiger handled the big power better but it took more power to run. A catch 22. I would buy the T/S. You get 85mph or so reliably. The Tigers with huge power are going to be faster but barely. The new 42-X or Tiger XP is built to handle bigger power and it is stepped. They are brand new though. No steals unfortunately :( Hope that helps. :D |
We love our 2001 T/S Gun. It is a solid 80 mph boat with stock 500 efi's, and handles big water great.

I do. cb

Had them both, have to say 42TS, smooth ride and crushes the rough stuff!

Thanks for the replys...is there a big difference in a TS TIGER vs. a regular Tiger. Seems theres a 1998 for sale...looks interesting...does anyone know about the boat??
|
i think the 98 your looking at is called jungle fever. I think it was the first tiger ever built.

as far as gun vs tiger, we've owned both. We had a gun and it was awsome, great boat, very roomy cockpit. And for the tiger, AMAZING. The tiger we currently own is stepped with 500efis. The boat is a real wave crusher. The boat will handle anything you throw at it. The only thing with the tiger is that theres so much deck that really helps it in the rough stuff but that reduces the room in the cockpit a significant amount. There both awsome boats.

Both boats are Great
Are you inland (fresh Water) or on the ocean??? In the big surf a Tiger will ride better. I would stick to a T/S if financially possible. There is a reason why non-step Tiger's are cheap. Nothing wrong with a nice gun. Thats a boat that you can buy without steps and still run HP500's. Just my 2 cents Fred |
have both
I have both in stock new and used,if I can help give me a call Harry Judge 410 827 0097

In the rough stuff bigger is better. The Tiger is awesome in big water,it's a real machine.Top Guns are great also,I've had both.If you have the room go for the Tiger. The T/S boats are fast in calm but a little funny in rough.A friend has a T/S Top Gun and in rough stuff he said it's like riding on marbles. The guy to call is Craig Barry at Martin Marine,ex-pres. of Cigarette and knows about Cigs.

I have never had any problems with my T/S gun in rough water. The only "weird" feeling I have had is if you have other baot wake hitting you from the side, but you get used to it.

Rode in both at 80mph for a good bit...(38 TopGun and a 42 Tiger)
The 38 was a conventional bottom with 700's and 3's. The 42 also a conventional bottom with 750's and Bravo's. They rode the same...The Tiger needs 3's and more power as to it feeling very under powered. Could only imagine what the 38 would feel like with about 900HP's. Hi Dean :p |
why would you say 700s, when you know it barely makes 600 Marky Mark...
700 next year if im lucky |
Had a 38TG, have a T/S - 575'sci's
T/S is a smoother boat in big water, and engines are bulletproof at 80-85mph, 150 hrs later. This would compare to 750's in a non-T/S which would burn about 20% more fuel, and double the maintenance. However the non T/S can be had pretty cheap. The Top Gun was a great boat, and have nothing bad to say about it. It's a classic that will never go out of style. Unlike the constantly changing crap by some of the wanna-bee's |

Not sure what a T/S is but I was in a 2002 42 Tiger over the weekend with Imco's and KE 675's. Definetly impressive...94 mph on the GPS on fresh water with 300 gal fuel and 3 people! Bay was kinda whipped up with some 3 footers and the hull had absolutely no problem with them at 90. Real nice package!
