27 cigarette/squadron 12

Any one know anything about a 27 cigarette/squadron 12? I am looking at one as we speak, and would like to know anything about these boats.

Yes, I had one back in the '80's. Initially, it had a black hull with a gold stripe and a gray deck. I believe the guy I sold it to painted it white. It was a nice boat. It handled well and was reasonably fast. It road a little hard in our rough water out here, but to put that in perspective, I think my Top Gun runs a little bumpy. (It's almost always rough down here). Other than that they are great boats.

This one is the nicest around and has the lowest time of any that are left, my buddy has owned since new after special ordering it. Here is the link to the ad on Craigslist.

Looks nice, but were they still building them in 84? What is the HIN?

Sean, please call Charlie at 305-798-8284, he is the owner and an expert on these boats, I just listed it for him and am no expert. Dave

Uh, there are some odd references here, the Craigslist ad says, "John Claude Pierre from Coyote Racing did the actual build and was the best builder back in the day!"

In addition to owning 5 Cigarettes, I owned a 34 Coyote race boat 'Color Me Gone' when Nardi Carriega owned it then "Hard Drive" when I owned it. So I know I know a little about Coyote's. Jean-Claude Simone built my Coyote.

Who rigged their boat Pepe LePeux?

The odd reference to Don's passing (1986) (I was in his office with him one week before he died) has nothing to do with a boat supposedly built in 1984..

"Only the best parts and the best builders were used in the build from back in the day, the boat even has Kiekhaefer "K" plane trim tabs that were normally used only on the big boats from back in the day but Charly wanted the best for his baby!"

My 1981 27' Cigarette had K-planes, I am holding in my hand a 1981 CRT Cigarette 27' accessories price list. True, K-Planes were an option, "Bluewater panel with Rockers $1,050.00." were an option, but I've never seen a 27 Cigarette built without K-planes.

"Built by Rampage racing"? This sure sounds like only a splash. I've never heard of Don or any other subsequent owner of the company sanctioning 27' clones to be called Cigarette.

Cool looking boat! But at 40K.... I'm guessing he is going to own that one for quite a while longer.:lolhit:

1970ls 06-11-2014 05:53 AM

O.C., I thought I was pretty clear when I wrote the ad for Charlie, the owner. The Cigarette run ended and Rampage rented the molds from Don to build more at $4K a pop, two were built, this boat and one with outboards. Don was killed, the partnership with Rampage ended, and this is the last I/O ever built from that mold. As I have said before, thanks for the interest but please call Charlie and I am sure he can answer any and all of your questions as he was there back in the day, living in Miami as he is now and knew the scene, had this boat built for him, and knows all the history of what happened back in the day.

No need to speculate when you can call Charlie and get the facts from him at 305-798-8284. Dave

I agree, a "Copy/Splash" of a Squadron 27 for $40K.....???

OR, an all original Real Squadron 27 with big power and serious drive...oh, and look "K-Planes" :-)...which could be had a few months ago for $15K. Includes the original (and proper) trailer too!

OR, an Imperial Copy (at least we know the history with these for better or worse) that I could have bought for $5k (yes, 5 thousand) earlier this year. That also included a very nice aluminum trailer.

Cheers,

The HIN does not lie...

I'm sure it is a great boat...along with the Cigarette 28ss(I've owned 2) and the Magnum 27 Sport, the XIIs are one of my favorite old school rides. As I can see you are new to this site, I would like to point out that there is a certain number of us who are sticklers for authenticity. For the boat to be worth the 40k price tag, it would need to have the XEX HIN. Anything less is a splash... a nice splash, but not the true original and will be judged accordingly. Tell Charlie best of luck with the sale. We mean him(or you) no ill will. :)

Very true on all points, just passing on knowledge that may help the seller get a better handle on comparative or at least similar pricing for that market....which is hard enough as it is to sort out.
