1976 28 Cigarette redone with procharged 350's and bravo drives at the above link. What would be a realistic estimate of top speed? What do these boats weigh?

ontheh2o 11-28-2003 07:49 AM

Looked at some older threads - is this boat still for sale?

birdog 11-28-2003 07:50 AM

Ask "cigracer38" That is his boat. Nicest 28 i have ever seen !!

Birddog,

Pictures are incredible! Sold my 312 Formula and looking for a replacement. This 28 would turn a few heads at Lake Cumberland.

Holy Smokes 11-28-2003 08:56 AM

I believe the boat has sold to Nick-o-Teen and plans to stay on Grand Lake in Oklahoma.

Congrats Nick-O-Teen! Great looking boat.

From what I have read in past posts that boat would run 75MPH all day any day. The boat did sell from what I have read. PM cigracer28/38 for info, it was his boat.

FeverFan 11-28-2003 07:48 PM

It did sell. NickOTeen bought it.

ontheh2o 11-28-2003 09:38 PM

Thanks for the info! Congrats Nick-o-teen!

NickOTeen 12-01-2003 08:46 AM

Thanks guys! I purchased the boat a few weeks ago. I haven't had much time to play with it yet as it was winterized right after the test drive. It should run around 75 mph!

dreamer 12-01-2003 08:53 AM

cig28ss lets see some pics!!! looks awsome... i had seans 02 28ss for a season awsome boats!!!

ontheh2o 12-01-2003 05:23 PM

If Nick-O-Teen's 28 with prochargers runs 75 mph would you expect a 28 with 350mags to run more like 65 mph?

NickOTeen 12-01-2003 05:50 PM

ontheh2o,
One of the guys that owned the all white 28SS said he was getting 67 mph with 350 mags and Bravo 1's. He said if it was propped right 70 was a possibility.

ontheh2o 12-01-2003 09:00 PM

Thanks for the info.

How expensive to convert a 28 from TRS to Bravo drives? How big of a disadavantage are the TRS's.

cig28ss 12-01-2003 11:16 PM

here is a another pic of my 28 ss. the change to bravos and ext boxes made a world of difference on this boat. felt very heavy and glued to the water before. now runs in rough water like a 40' .cost of conversion i don't think i really want to add it up. 2 bravos, 2 transom assy, 2 extension boxes, hydraulic steering, and many hours of rigging.don't think i would do it again but the results are great. when i did it i had stock 370's and ran about 60 mph after about 72 mph w/much better handling

What was the last year for the 28? Did it make to 1989 and bravos?

Yeah, I've heard people say that they can run 70+ with stock 350's. I just don't see it. Mine with stock 350's ran low 60's. The prochargers added around 10-12 mph. I find it difficult to think my boat with blown 350's was only 3-5mph faster. It's propped perfectly.

cig28ss 12-02-2003 10:34 PM

For some reason my pic's didn't show up. Ill try again

I would like more info on this 28 with supercharged 502's from wisconsin. Sounds like what I have been looking for. Please send pics and info to [email protected]

Thanks!

How does the 28 ride. I'm considering a 1976 28ft'r with 350's and trs drives. Are they worth the updating? Both in ride/performance and resale?

Depends on why you are updating. If you are doing it to make a killer boat, then it's worth it. If your trying to turn a buck, your in the wrong sport. :D

Of course they ride awesome, why do you think they are still in demand?

dreamer 12-07-2003 12:11 PM

buy one that is allready updated...
mine ran 67 w/ 350 mpis and bravo 1s its for sale now from member nautti kitty for 30k.. totally redone !!!!

bryanspeedracer 12-07-2003 01:15 PM

Thanks Cigracer38 and Dreamer. You are so right about making a buck. But, somehow at the end of the day my brains right side won't let me pour three times a boats worth down the ramp.
I'm new to serious offshore and just warming up to the cost.

Wally 12-08-2003 11:37 AM

Heres a pic of Rons engines in the 28 :D

NickOTeen 12-08-2003 01:22 PM

WOW! hp's in a 28 unfukinbelivable:cool:

My 85 with 300 tempests (oldschool 350mag) and Trs drives will run 63 gps. With the right props. 65 should be dooable.

Whoever asked about the bravo conversion....it wouldnt be bad if you are starting from nothing i.e. a bare hull, or a boat with no motors and drives. but to switch from a fully functioning and rigged TRS setup to bravo would be a waste of time and $$ IMO, unless your purpose of the conversion was to eliminate the tranny in order to have more room for bigger motors. The 350's in my boat are tight as hell, I couldnt even fathom how someone got a pair of hp500's stuffed in there.
