new boat

Just got back from Miami, I commissioned the construction of Gladiator #40 (just in time for my 40th Birthday).

Looked real hard at Steve's (OSO) gladiator. It passed a scrutinizing survey with flying colors but it boiled down to going with staggered engines. My plan is to power with Boss 429s if my friend Randy at Stellings can convince his boss to let him fab a one of a kind set of headers. If not, I will reuse the 875 horse BB Fords I currently use in my 32 fountain (too much power for that boat).

I am not a computer whiz but will try to post the paint and color layout provided by Cigarette

OK I suck at the computer. I used browse, found the file, attached it and submitted it but it did not come up.

If there is sufficient interest, I can e-mail ti to someone who can post it, otherwise I just wanted to toot my horn!

WOW, nice ride. I love the exotic power, what HP are you targeting ?. When can they deliver ?

BLee 01-25-2004 02:36 PM

Totally original. Looks incredible. Did Gustavo help you?

CBlakeNS 01-25-2004 04:01 PM

Thats awsome man, gonna be one nice ride there.

GLH 01-25-2004 04:02 PM

Nice Ride Congrats

Yes Gustavo helped me; I knew what I wanted and he put it to paper.

Horsepower will be mild. 775 horse with Robert Yates heads, Add 75-100 for the Hemi heads. 572 cubic inches.

I have powered all three of my boats with big inch Fords. Only to be different. No problem with GM power except it is 100% of the hot rod boating scene. Just love to be different or unique.

All of my boats have been Navy Blue. First a well built Warlock (by Stolarz) then a Fountain (by Bayliner) now the cig. This will be the first where the deck is not blue I am sticking with white gel coat

PS The bottom is red gel coat.

Worked directly with Neil through Lip-ship. Every one treated me like a million bucks (like I was buying one of their big $$ boats).

What a wonderful experience.

Awesome, how long will it take to build?

The delivery date is May 1st. it could have been a little earlier but I was OK with that date so the mountain passes would be clear when trucked out west.

BTW thanks for all the positive feedback. Feels good coming from those "who can appreciate it" as my wife astutely points out.

I really like the paint scheme, it looks retro to me.

Retro and familiar!

2112 01-26-2004 09:24 AM

Yes GLH;

That boat is the inspiration. The long deck, small cockpit and low windscreen and hatch of the Gladiator really lent itself well to doing a "retro" look.

I have always liked that layout. I think it looks as god today as it did 3 decades back. I just tweaked it a bit with the red bottom.

My first two boats were all blue, top to bottom. this time it was fine tuned to give a true Cigarette feel.

GLH 01-26-2004 09:49 AM

I had a Red boat for about five years.
Never again.
I had to wax that deck every two weeks so it would not oxydize, sides were not nearly as bad. I think a white deck is very wise.

2112 01-26-2004 09:58 AM

Yes the blue boats are hard to keep. I built myself a shop and pull the boat in on Sunday night and get her nice for the next week end.

But man to dark colors look rich.

Nice boat 2112!!! I like the scheme. Are you a Rush Fan?

You could name it "Fly By Night"

Great choice of colors ( its good that you are OK with and used to the upkeep ), love the retro feel / vibe to it. It will definately turn heads / provoke conversations / have female tops vanish :D

Boat looks great! I would suggest before shipping the boat out west you spend a little time on it in South Florida. If it does need a little fine tuning it will save you a lot of time and you will get a chance to play in the Miami area.

Biggus 01-27-2004 03:57 PM

Looks like you are building a cool, one of a kind Gladiator! Dare to be Different!

I really like the color design.

...kinda funny, I must spend too much time here looking at Ciggies, but I had a dream last night that I saw your boat and you had a pair of 427 Side Oilers in it :D

what does that mean

Good luck with the process, your plans are sweet.

Kurt
