intercom system

I was wondering if anyone has installed a intercom system on their boat, and suggest anyone in particular do perform such a setup. There seams no consistentcy in quotes that I have been getting. Need help.

"Special Op's" at Martin Offshore has it. My friend put it in his 47 Fountain recently too. He had his Stereo guru install it.

Intercom

Suggest that you start by calling "Nauti Kitty"
I know that Parnell has done several custom installs and maybe he can answer your questions.
Special Ops is a buddy of mine and his system has worked great, I'll find out who installed it.
Good chance that it was Tres Martin when they built the boat but I'm not sure.

samson racing stand alone unit battery power box 4 headsets 800 dollars... all the other companies are taking aviation intercoms and tripling the price to sell to guys that are "stupid or rich" enough to pay 300k for some fiberglass and motors

In my Velocity with the short windscreen, I worry about wind noise interfering with the microphone. is anyone using a throat mike?? If so what are the pros and cons?

dreamer 01-31-2004 03:48 PM

they are special mikes + you adjust the sensitivity w/ the squelch

My friend has installed a few and recommends a push to talk button.

He has installed units with a button on the drivers steering wheel, and passengers have a button connected to the headset cord.

With the voice activated ones he said that wind noise becomes a problem.

Even with the push to talk, I would think that wind noise would be a problem. Has no one tried a throat mike?

Dreamer, where is Samoson Racing? Do they have a web site?

dreamer 02-01-2004 10:43 AM

samson racing on google should get you there

Check out, fly-bluesky.com. There are alot of other aviation sites to. The head sets are really confusing because there are so many. I'm going to put them in my Top Gun but probably a project for next winter. Doug

You may also want to look at the unit that Revolution Marine sells. I bought one and installed it myself in my 38 flat deck.
I used 4 ports for the head sets and the unit comes with ports to hook to the marine radio, stereo, cell phone and the alarms on the motors.
I tried using the "boom" mikes, but in a standing position there was too much wind noise, so I'm switching to the throat mikes.
Revolution Marine was extremely helpful in every regard with the system. Give them a call or e-mail.
