One thing is for sure - my '02 Gladiator is FAR more stable at high speeds than my '00 F-2 Top Gun was. The F-2 Top Gun - because it was setup to be a race boat - was fast but less stable at high speeds. It was definately MORE to handle when running hard.

Also, the Gladiator has it's own mold. If the Gun and Glad were the same, this would make little sense.

and if Neil says they are different, that is the gospel.

That would make scents with
Gladiator is 36'11" overall length
Top Gun is 37'6" overall length

Yes,but dont forget, both the topgun and the gladiator are seamed together where the deck meets the hull. When the gladiator first came about,it was a cut down version of the topgun. It would make perfect sense to use the same bottom with a different deck. The outerlimits 37 gtx and stilletto share the same bottom as well. And,if you look at the length of the gladiator vs the topgun,it could definitely be a shorter version of the same hull.Tomorrow,I will call Myco, they should be able to tell if the bottoms are the same or not.

Re: Gladiator

I believe it was more than just cutdown ... the crease in the side of the hull is still proportionately correct.

The same bottom ?

Re: Gladiator

Gary, Actually it is not. That is one of the things we were looking out when our Gun was sitting next to the Gladiators. The "crease" on the Gladiator is closer to the deck than it is on the Gun. This also leads me to believe the bottom is the same. If they built another bottom why would they not have centered the "crease"?

Our gun...

Jeffrey's Gladiator...

It is easier to see in person but if you follow the crease towards the bow you can see it gets closer to the deck on the Gladiator than it does on the Gun. From the crease down it looks the same.

Funny thing is - Gary and I keep our boats at a dry rack storage right next to each other - literally three feet apart. We need to go down there this weekend and take some pics and measurements. We'll know for sure then! :)

Re: Gladiator

I guess it is one of those things you really don't think about till you look at the boats next to each other and compare. Semper Fi and I spent about 30 minutes in havasu comparing the three boats and that's when we noticed the difference with the crease. It took a while to notice though. :D

Not argueing just pointing out some of the things I have noticed. Just makes you wonder why they did not change some things if they built a whole new bottom. Maybe they just tweaked the bottom from the Gun?

I used to own DCB cats before the Gun and watched the process they went throught to make molds with having to build plugs. I know how expensive and time consuming it is to do. It would make alot more sense to take a bottom you already have and then make changes to it. Much easier than starting from scratch.

When my Top Gun and my Gladiator are parked 5 feet apart and I take a tape measure to the steps I tend to believe the tape. Things may have changed in post 2002 boats but I see what I see.......

I'd have to agree with HavasuCig here. I was with him at Havasu when his '01 Gun was right next to Jeffrey's '02 Gladiator. The Gladiator hull looked like it was cut down about 8" lower than the Top Gun hull. We noticed that because the boweye on the Gladiator was about 5" lower where the rubrail would be. On the gun, the boweye is about 13" lower than the rubrail. Also, the "crease" on the Gun is in the middle, on the Gladitor, it is higher (looked like the deck was cut down) Everything else was IDENTICAL.

I wasn't pointing fingers counselor. :drink: (had to)

I think your boat is one of the exceptions. Probably because it was one of the first ones.

Makes sense to me. I would bet it is the bow that is shorter from being cut down. Like I said before there is a Gladiator sitting on my old trailer now.

According to the factory, the official answer is two seperate molds and two seperate hulls. While they may look similiar because they are similiar, there is a definite difference .

Correct, there are two molds because the deck heights are different otherwise they would have to manually cut down each hull 7 inches after coming out of the mold. The bottom is the same, hull sides are shorter.......

According to Cig.,the bottoms are similar but not identical.

Re: Gladiator

I haven't measured anything or been close enough to eyeball the bottoms of these 2 boats, but I would think that with the change in length of the boats, this would affect the design. Once you cut out 1.5 ft the balance over the steps changes also I would think. If you measure from the front or from the back there has to be different measurements on one side. I'm intrigued with the fact of the staggered glads having a tendency to chine walk, are there any staggered guns with steps? or even # 6's -- putting the weight farther forward over the steps of a gun?
What are people doing with the xr's when putting 700+ hp through them on these are they holding or is a speedy required? I know there's a few out there but have never heard how they handle it.
As far as the pre 02' mold for ts TG's I was told that the strakes were put on after as the mold did not include them -- or something close to that effect--
Don't mean to take this thread a different direction, but curious as to the differences as you change the dynamics of both these boats.
