Top speed on a Tiger w/ 500's?

What should top speed be on a 2000 Tiger with 500 efi's and bravos?

I think Otis 311 said 72 with the same set up.

Re: Top speed on a Tiger w/ 500's?

Pardon the ignorance, but I've been curious about the same setup. I assume that setup is a non-TS hull??

I am also curious as to how a non-TS Tiger with bigger power ie. 650-750hp runs. I know Tiger-1 has his for sale, and If I can sell my 382, I may be very interested in that boat.

I have a NS 2000 Tiger with XR's and Merc 600 SC's.

I have seen 82 in salt water with Biggus, Craig223, and another 2 people on board.

I put smaller pulleys I would venture I am around 630-6355HP and now hit 81 in fresh water with fumes on board and 2 people. Turning 30 Labbed 4 Blade bravos.

Hope this helps do not hesitate with any questions.

'Untamed' with SC750's / XR's / 5 blade Hering's = 86-88 mph with medium to light load.

Thanks abunch. I must tell you I absolutely love your boat. It is one of the main reasons I am looking at Tigers. I would love to be in the low to mid 80's. I have also looked at Top Guns with bigger power as they are a little more affordable for me right now. My question is what is the difference in ride between the Tigers and Top Guns. Thanks again for the help, I am young and trying to learn all I can before getting into my next rig.

Corey

What could someone expect to lose speed wise going to a 3A over the XR's??
I am not familiar with that boat..any pics.

Also anyone with an older Tiger looking to sell for less than 190k let me know.

Thanks again

Thats quite an improvement for a pulley change 600hp to 6355hp :D :D

Sorry I was just re-reading that and had to do it :drink: :drink:

How are your XR's holding up? What pitch Hering's?

GLH,
That is a pretty boat you have. How does the Excursion tow it. I just got a 2005 Excursion Ltd, diesel.

Thanks,
Mat

First I have to say you have one sweet boat very nice!

I have a 97 Kevlar gun also with 600SCs and would be interested as to what pulley size you use and and also the new rpm she is turning? At my max, 5200 rpms 26 4 blade Bravos I can just hit 80+ on my gps. With out tabs and drives that far out she is a bit to squirrly at that speed on the bay for my liking.I'm thinking with a few more ponies I may achieve the same speeds, but with some tab and less of my drives out.
Any info is appreciated. Thanks! Glen

That boat you are reffering to Matt is Victor's boat (LivinVIP). I have been on it. It is EXTREMELY clean. 500EFI and has XR drives that have recently been rebuilt by TNT. 73 MPH. Extended Covergirl cabin. It is maintained with an open checkbook and is absolutley flawless. I don't know of any boat that is nicer in that year.

Not my rig, a friend of mines. The XR's are holding up pretty well but he is easy on them coming up and is very good on the throttles. Not sure on the pitch, he is wanting to try the 6 blades at this point. I'll find out the pitch of the 5 blades and post / let you know.

Re: Top speed on a Tiger w/ 500's?

I had(I was National Marined) a simular set up in my Tiger

540/500 Bulldogs with XR'S

Ive seen as low as 67 mph and as high as 73 mph

I had 11 people on the boat with a good 2' Lake chop and a full tank of fuel and saw 71mph on GPS.

The boat doesnt even come alive unless its got 2-3' waves and is going faster than 60 mph.

I have not ridden on Top Guns enough to give you a valid comparaison.

Biggus last winter said that it felt like it was 10' longer than his Top Gun. Both boats are non-stepped.

The only thing I added was Firestone airbags ($220) to it apart from that it pulls and stops great, no issues on hills either. The Myco trailer with bridging also helps.
Your diesel should eat it up no problems if your pulling a Tiger. I have a V-10.

The original pulleys were 5" on the blower, I have a 4.7"s which I run and and a 4.5"s which I have not even tried.
I turn 5200 also with Bravo Ones 4 blades 30"Labbed, I am considering getting 5 blades hydro's from Throttle-Up, labbed props are great for top end but I cruise most of the time and I have seen 5 blades on all boats be a lot more efficient for cruising, in the order of 7-9 mph faster at 3500-4000rpm. Fuel would improve greatly then.

Changin the pulleys I guesstimated the 30-35 HP increase due to the fact that I gained 2-3 mph and I have been told at those speeds it's around 15hp per motor to gain each mph's.

Re: Top speed on a Tiger w/ 500's?

Thanks for the info GLH!!

I have been very interested in how you were liking your setup with the 600's, and it sounds like it is running very well. If you get the bug to sell, call me first :D

I called Craig@Martin Marine yesterday and was very impressed by him. Very helpful and was a true pleasure to talk to.

I don't see many boats with the 600's, but I think that is the setup I would prefer.
I have also considered getting into a big power Top Gun, but the insurance is a big problem with my age. I think a milder Tiger or Gun may be the ticket...until I get older anyways.

One more question, what do you think your Tiger weighs on the trailer?

Thanks again
Corey
